Lake Forest School Districts 67 and 115 are seeking a Communications Assistant.
Description: The Communications Assistant directly assists the Chief Communications Officer and Communications Manager through the maintenance of digital platforms, creation and distribution of District internal and external communications, and support of the Superintendent on issues and information pertaining to the District. The Communications Assistant requires a unique skillset of creative, technical, and administrative abilities and serves as part of a dynamic team that creates content, supports teaching and learning, and seeks to inform, engage, and connect District stakeholders.
Starting Rate: $22.00-$40.00/per hour
Qualifications and Requirements
- Previous work experience as a Communications Assistant, Communication specialist, Webmaster, or similar role
- Proven skills in marketing, communications, or public relations
- Proficient in Google Suite
- Strong background working with email marketing tools (e.g., Smore, MailChimp, Constant Contact)
- Working knowledge of design software (e.g., Canva, Photoshop, InDesign) and content management systems (e.g., Blackboard, Finalsite, WordPress, Drupal, etc.)
- Familiarity with Web standards
- Strong writing and editing skills
- Outstanding communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills, including a positive, problem-solving, and service-minded attitude
- Ability to manage confidential information with professionalism and discretion
- Attention to detail and outstanding organizational skills
- Ability to generate creative ideas in a collaborative manner
- Graphic design and video production experience strongly preferred
- BS/BA in Marketing, Communications or a related field
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Oversee and manage all aspects of the District 67 and DIstrict 115 website, including maintaining timely and relevant content including calendaring, ensuring ADA Compliance, monitoring analytics, and providing a high level of customer service to website users through communications and training.
- Regularly assists the Chief Communications Officer and Communications Manager with implementation and deployment of communication in support of Superintendent and Board policy
- Regularly assist the Chief Communications Officer with collecting deployment and analysis of employee and community insights for the purpose of formulating District practices and procedures
- Prepare and distribute all District electronic and print communications via the District’s email email marketing tools and print vendors
- Create and edit communications copy writing and editing content for distribution including photos and videos
- Prepares and distributes assorted press materials for media sources
- Lead and manage the logistical support for District Communications events
- Assist in the execution and tracking of communications strategies
- Provide administrative and project-based support to internal and external stakeholders
- Update team databases and media lists
- Track budget and participate in budgeting process
- Liaise with graphic designers and other vendors to develop and produce public relations and promotional materials
- Attend District events to take photographs and videos for District use
- Offer administrative support to the Chief Communications Officer and team including preparing presentations and reports, scheduling meetings, tracking projects, and ordering materials according to deadlines
- Provide occasional support during evenings and weekends, as circumstances require
- Other duties as assigned
Physical Demands & Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, and hear. The employee is occasionally required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Repetition motions are required, especially for keyboarding which involves substantial movements of the wrists, hands and/or fingers. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
