NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs

If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.

If you have a MedPED and you are selected for an on-site interview at Sandia National Laboratories, there may be additional steps necessary to ensure compliance with NNSA security requirements prior to the interview date.

Salary Range

$75,900 – $146,200

*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate’s experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

What Your Job Will Be Like

Organization 03641, Program Communications, is currently seeking a Program Communications Specialist to support the Associate Labs Director and executive leadership of the Global Security Portfolio and Division 06000.

The selected candidate will be responsible for leading the development of quality communication products and approaches, and associated metrics to assess effectiveness of products. This position requires both independently developing high-visibility content for a variety of applications and audiences often on short deadlines, as well as providing leadership to continuously develop, refine, and integrate information obtained in collaboration with other professionals across the Laboratories.

On any given day, one may be called upon to:

  • Define internal and external communication strategies for Division 06000 and the Global Security Portfolio, and develop and implement plans and priorities to achieve the goals of those strategies
  • Serve as a thought partner regarding communication needs and approaches for executive leadership during strategic, operational, and tactical discussions
  • Define messaging approaches and materials for reaching different audiences, including different internal employee groups and/or levels of management within the Labs and with different audiences external to the Labs
  • Establish approaches and implement tools to ensure easy access and maintain a continuous history of communication products created by the office
  • Deliver data calls and generate reports and responses for Labs leadership requests
  • Provide communication product development support on short deadlines, including applying technical writing, technical editing, graphical visualization, and applying other key communication skills
  • Partner with executive strategy professionals, creative designers, and others to develop and continuously evolve effective and cohesive branded materials
  • Develop dynamic tools across multiple mediums to enable partners to communicate clearly across different audiences
  • Write and produce video content in partnership with directors and videographers
  • Provide regular formal and informal status reports for ongoing communication efforts to various levels of Division and Portfolio management

Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite 50% of the time.

Qualifications We Require

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Communications, English, Journalism, Marketing, or a relevant field, plus 5 years related experience; or equivalent experience and/or achievements that demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of the job
  • Experience with developing reports and central messaging for a variety of audiences
  • The ability to acquire and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance

Qualifications We Desire

  • A Master’s degree in Communications, English, Journalism, Marketing, or a closely-related field
  • Experience supporting and working with executives
  • At least 1 year demonstrated leadership experience
  • Experience working in a matrix environment with demonstrated customer service skills
  • A strong familiarity with Sandia’s processes and procedures
  • Excellent writing and editing skills
  • Experience composing, reviewing, and editing internal and external communications
  • Strong customer service skills and the ability to work concurrently on multiple projects in various stages of development
  • A proven ability to collaborate with other communication professionals and technical subject matter authorities to complete a project or task
  • Experience with graphic design software such as Visio and Photoshop
  • Experience with project management and/or agile software such as Rally and MS Project
  • The ability to develop and implement communications plans
  • Experience with professional photography and basic photo editing
  • The ability to manage confidential and sensitive information
  • An active DOE Q-level security clearance; or other equivalent active security clearance such as DOD Top Secret
