Technical Product Owner (Distributed Systems Operation)

Our products support research classified national security operations, and commercial endeavors. Security and reliability are essential to the success of these programs.

The RRAI product team is looking for a technically savvy product owner and creator to drive the architecture and systems design of our distributed autonomous vehicle control platform. We are looking for people who are strategic, prioritize accordingly, and are comfortable leading and working alongside our engineers at different levels of abstraction between data, digital, logical, and virtualized systems.

Ideally, you are not only a tech lead, but you are passionate in the design, engineering and build-out of a low-latency remote operations platform that can securely engage multiple robotic platforms simultaneously. The elegance of your solution more than offsets any technical debt incurred. Being flexible, communicating clearly, and establishing and maintaining productive working relationships with leadership and other engineering teams are paramount to success.

Role and Responsibility:

Position Responsibilities:

    • Product Vision: Inspire the team with your product vision, then work cross-functionally translate product requirements into a scalable product-quality remote operations platform and launch the product.
    • Roadmap: Develop the software roadmap for our remote operations and TeleOp solution to meet customer, partner, and business needs.
    • Product Expert: Assist business development, operations, and marketing with external facing materials and presentations.
    • Define Requirements: Write detailed product requirements documents, define use cases, and own OKRs for your products and services.
    • Refine the User Experience: Work with hardware and software teams to improve the user experience of our solution.
    • Drive Efficiency: At scale every (micro)second counts, so you will work to improve efficiency across all critical use cases.

Required Skills & Abilities:

    • Entrepreneurial mindset.
    • Know how to capture internal and external customer requirements and needs, distill relevant insights, prioritize features, manage stakeholders, and drive product definition and feature execution across the product team.
    • Must have an unwavering eye for UX/CX with regards to the product.
    • Drive the distributed systems roadmap based on customer requirements and needs.
    • Define milestones, success criteria (KPIs), allocate resources, and deliver products on time.
    • Understand technical implementation at the architecture and engineering level and propose technical alternatives when necessary.
    • Influence and make technical decisions in working with cross-functional teams.
    • Constantly communicate our vision, features, priorities, deliverables, and goals to our stakeholders via program documentation, launch announcements, release notes, brown bags, seminars, and user training.
    • Interface with engineering managers and engineers to estimate work efforts, define milestones and manage resources.
    • Track progress, resolve dependencies, evaluate risks and communicate status to senior management and project stakeholders.
    • Three words: Agile, Iterate, Execute.

Education & Experience:

    • Bachelor’s and experience in Engineering.
    • 5+ years of experience in Product Management or Engineering Management on technical cross-functional projects.
    • 3+ years of working exposure and/or experience in cloud and network engineering.
    • Practical knowledge of Agile project execution and Agile iterative process.
    • Good understanding of data engineering, data transport, telemetry, low latency networks that may utilize WebRTC, Cyclone DDS, Fast DDS or similar protocols/middleware.
    • Strong technical aptitude and an ability to help drive resolution to technical designs, challenges, and risks.
    • Proven strong cross-team and cross-org stakeholder management. Ability to influence, motivate, and align people across a broad variety of job functions through your relationships.
    • Metrics-driven: Experience determining effective KPIs and using them to measure product success and issues. PLG approach a plus.
    • Good at facilitating discussions. getting the right people in the room, let conversations run their course while they are productive, move them toward consensus when possible, and make hard decisions or escalate, as required.
    • Comfortable with ambiguity – remains confident, positive and resourceful in the face of unexpected results; fails fast and learns faster. Recovers quickly from setbacks.

Preferred Qualifications:

    • Master’s level experience in Engineering Product Management with a focus on remote operations and advanced robotics.
    • 5+ years of experience as a Product Owner with software for mission-critical products, working with Agile methodology and test-driven development. Background in engineering, technology, or UX preferred. CSPO is a plus.
    • Working understanding of low-level programming concepts for languages such as C++ as well as JavaScript and Python.
    • Strong communication skills (both written and spoken) with ability to align organization on complex technical decisions.

$190,000 – $240,000 a year
