UPMC Workpartners is seeking a Senior Manager of Business Operations!

The Sr. Manager Business Operations will maintain a proactive work environment through integrating processes across the company, improving processes through redesign to make the company more efficient while maintaining an on target timeline for reaching business objectives. Additionally, the manager business operations will design and manage the execution of departmental plans and objectives to ensure efficient and effective business processes. The Sr. Manager business operations will assist in strategic planning, budgeting, business improvement and development of staff. The manager: business operations will also have a matrix reporting to the Chief Operating Officer. This work will be performed in compliance with state and federal regulations, NCQA standards, and the mission, policies and procedures of the Health Plan and Insurance Services Division. The Sr. Manager business operations will demonstrate professionalism and commitment to meet UPMC Health Plan and Insurance Services Division goals and objectives.

Strong Preferences:
• Experience supporting 3rd party and custom applications/solutions
• Program/product management experience is preferred
• SQL proficiency, minimally the interest to learn and support a team of data/system analysts
• Experience managing projects in a highly matrixed environment
• Ability to learn in-depth operating processes and plan and deliver program enhancements to meet client and business goals
• Strong communication skills
• Flexibility with rapidly changing business priorities

Responsibilities:

  • Develop, coordinate and oversee the enforcement of policies, procedures, guidelines and standards of operations.
  • Interview, hire and establish performance development plans; conduct performance reviews; provide support, guidance, leadership and motivation to promote maximum performance.
  • Assist with budget preparation.
  • Act as a liaison between operational and functional areas, sales, group executives, and the internal support team to identify and address barriers cross-functionally.
  • Communicate with operations and other departments company wide to ensure the use of best practices and the standardization of processes and procedures
  • Work with the Senior Management Team in the development and implementation of the strategic and annual plans.
  • Assist Chief Operating Officer with special projects as necessary.
  • Establish project/process architecture and coordinate and ensure timely and accurate implementation of projects, many of which are cross-departmental.
  • Work as part of a team, leader of a team, or individually with responsibility for performance planning and management related efforts.
  • In collaboration with the Organization Performance department, produce dashboards (graphical representation of how business units are performing).
  • Develop and implement detailed project plans including delineated project tasks, resource requirements, interdependencies and timeliness.
  • Analyze performance data and work to reengineer processes through benchmarking with external and internal business partners.
  • Provide management and direction to a team of staff comprised of project managers and business analysts.
  • Collaborate with IT regarding systems support, performance, and problem resolution and automation advancement.
  • Provide leadership, guidance, and support to various staff types within your team as well as across the business unit.
  • Provide input and consultation to executive and management staff regarding corporate and department programs and activities.
  • Monitor the effectiveness of productivity and process flows within all departments and make recommendations for the modification and improvement of process and work flow to improve productivity and quality of service.
  • Manage vendor relationships supporting production of policy provisions to the end customer.
  • Manage operations processes to ensure that business objectives are met through scalable and cost effective solutions.
  • Institute continuous project/product monitoring to proactively support customer satisfaction.
  • Assist with the development of defining business plans, strategic goals, and support work plans.

Qualifications

  • B.S. degree in Business, Health Care, Management, or related field. Master’s degree preferred (extensive related experience will be considered).
  • 3 years of management experience coupled with a minimum of 5 years healthcare industry related experience required
  • 3 years project management experience required.
  • Proven track record of developing people and staff management.
  • Experience supporting 3rd party and custom applications/solutions

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
PMP certification preferred.
