Investment Advisory Attorney
The Legal Department at LPL Financial is looking for an attorney to support our investment advisory programs, through which LPL advisors provide advice to clients across the United States. This attorney will provide advice on laws, rules and regulations that impact LPL’s advisory business, as well as current regulatory areas of focus. The role, Senior Vice President, Associate General Counsel, will work with an experienced team of lawyers to provide pragmatic legal advice and thought leadership on our advisory business.
Responsibilitiesinclude but are not limited to:
- Providing strategic advice on legal and regulatory issues affecting investment advisors, with a primary focus on the Investment Advisers Act
- Counseling product/business teams through all stages of the development of new advisory initiatives, including creating or updating advisory programs, supporting new affiliation models, and drafting agreements and disclosures
- Maintaining and updating Form ADV brochures for the advisory programs to reflect changes in the programs and the regulatory environment
- Effectively and proactively provide sound advice on federal and state laws impacting investment advisors
- Partnering with our product/business colleagues and other members of our Compliance, Legal and Risk team to drive thought leadership in this practice area
- Managing department staff, including attorneys and paralegals
What are we looking for?

What skills and education are required?
- JD from a nationally accredited law school; admitted to practice law, and in good standing, in at least one jurisdiction in the U.S.
- 15 plus years of experience counseling on laws, rules and regulations impacting the financial services industry
- Experience at a law firm or company in the financial services industry. Ideal candidate has worked with a focus on the Investment Advisers Act and related rules and regulations. Experience with other fiduciary requirements, at the state level or under ERISA, is a plus
- Strong organizational and project management skills, including the ability to handle multiple projects and manage deadlines in a fast-paced and demanding work environment
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Good interpersonal skills and ability to interact with members of senior management as well as adaptability and willingness to take on a wide variety of new tasks in a fast-paced environment
Pay Range:
$207,600-$311,400/year
The salary range is dependent on a number of factors, including the applicant’s skill, experience, and work location.
