Job Summary

We are seeking a Technical Support Tech – ACT3 for our Insourcing Solutons site located in Bethesda, MD.

The following are responsibilities related to the Technical Support Tech – ACT3:
• Reviews, comprehends and complies with all SOP’s and quality assurance standards pertaining to specific area. Cares for and maintains laboratory animals in accordance with the Animal welfare Act and the “Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals”, as well as NIH policies and guidelines and other pertinent regulations and policies.
• Monitors daily animal health and welfare while performing daily animal health observations, animal husbandry duties to maintain quality and health of research animals, to include: perform daily water bottle and cage checks; provide appropriate food and water; perform cage changing and/or cage cleaning as required; record animal health concerns per SOP and/or specified protocols.
• Assists with restraint, handling and manipulation of various animal species as assigned by the on-site Supervisor or facility veterinarian.
• Strictly follows all procedures necessary to maintain animal housing areas including entry of personnel and equipment into facility, room or other controlled areas.
• Receives, inspects and puts away incoming animals; ensures and provides for sentinel animals in each rodent housing area.
• Performs technical support to include, but not limited to: animal handling and restraint, weaning, tail snips, ear tagging, blood collection), tissue collection, time-mating, rodent breeding colony management as needed, and assists with research procedures as directed.
• Ability to use an anesthesia machine and monitor anesthetized rodents.
• Provide rodent identification using various techniques.
• Perform computer-based responsibilities to include, but not limited to: email notifications, document and image uploads, updating logs, spreadsheet data entry, and maintain up-to-date records.
• Assist veterinary staff with providing blood collection, clinical and post-operative care and observations as needed.
• Maintains accurate records of animal breeding, health, and housing/isolator or support areas as required by Institute and facility. Follows breeding and weaning procedures to ensure required production levels.
• Provide customer service to research staff and complete submitted service requests.
• Alert veterinary staff of health concerns with animals that have been serviced.

Qualifications

The following are minimum qualifications related to the Technical Support Tech – ACT3 position:
• Education: High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
• Experience: Minimum of 2-year experience performing basic animal care is required.
• Certification/Licensure: LAT eligibility required; LAT certification preferred.

An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experience listed above.

The pay range for this position is $20.00 – 21.00 USD per hour. Please note that salaries vary within the range based on factors including, but not limited to, experience, skills, education, certifications, and location.
