Position Summary/Purpose of Position:
The Department of Transportation Services has grant-funded programs totaling more than $40,000,000 from Federal, State, and other sources. Grant funding is an effective means of introducing new and expanding upon existing programs. These impactful programs serve departmental priorities such as sustainability, accessibility, and access to reliable public transit.
The DOTS grants manager will oversee all of the department’s grant-funded activities from the point of scoping through closeout. This includes seeking opportunities for funding, preparing competitive proposals, managing the relationship between the department and sponsors, facilitating external audits, and performing routine reporting activities. The Grants Manager will oversee financial accounting for all grant-funded projects, working directly with Sponsored Programs Accounting Compliance, the Office of Research Administration, and other university departments. This position will develop and maintain necessary systems and professional relationships to ensure that reporting is executed accurately and on time. These responsibilities span new and existing sponsored/grant-funded projects.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Business, or a related field
Experience:
- Minimum five (5) years of mid-level professional work experience
- Three (3) years of successful management of multidisciplinary projects and programs
- Experience working in higher education or non-profit organization
- Experience and/or interest in collaborating with others who are skilled in areas other than grant writing and management, such as the skilled trades, administrators, transportation planners, and university students
- Experience working within accounting or other project-specific software systems for the purpose of financial and progress reporting
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Advanced and effective spoken and written communication skills, including the ability to prepare and present a clear, concise report
- Knowledge of or ability to become an expert on non-traditional funding mechanisms for transportation in municipal or educational environments
- Knowledge of fiscal management, budget procedures and controls
- Consistently accurate math and clerical skills, including the ability to compile, analyze and verify fiscal and statistical information
- Ability to participate effectively in strategic planning and evaluation initiatives
- Ability to effectively organize work, determine priorities, work independently and complete assigned duties by the deadline with minimal supervision
- Ability to effectively represent the Department of Transportation Services to the public, business, and local, state, and federal officials
- Ability to work with sensitive information and maintain appropriate confidentiality
Preferences:
Preferences:
- Mid-level professional work experience with a background in grant administration, writing, financial reporting
- Experience managing Federally funded grant program
- Experience working in an organization that provides or consults on transit, sustainable transportation, and/or parking
- Demonstrated success in applying for and managing the lifecycle of federal, state, and/or local grants
- Demonstrated success managing several grant-funded programs totaling more than $250,000 per fiscal year

The salary range for this position is mid $80’s to mid 90’s commensurate with experience.
