About the Department:

The Office of Marketing and Communications houses brand management, communications, and creative teams that develop marketing strategies to reach the school’s external and internal audiences.

Purpose:

The primary role of the research communications writer is to develop compelling communications in multiple formats that promote the reputation of the Ross School of Business, specifically the innovation and impact of its academic research. You will report to the director of communications.

What You’ll Do

  • Partner with Michigan Ross faculty to identify and differentiate the core messaging about Ross research, including developing a communications vision and identifying key goals
  • Build relationships with communicators and faculty across campus to stay up to date with research developments and existing research communications channels
  • Help identify the broad themes and trends in Ross research, and write stories about progress and potential societal impact in those areas
  • Produce a monthly faculty podcast that features Ross faculty members discussing their research findings
  • Help write op-ed pieces featuring faculty expertise
  • Structure and conduct interviews and other fact-finding research efforts and summarize findings into main points
  • Help target important messages about Ross research to specific external audiences, including news media, alumni and business leaders, industry and government officials, and peer institutions
  • Support additional writing and copy editing

Required Qualifications*

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, English, or related field and at least 3 years of experience with the development of communication planning and strategies
  • Experience with creative writing and storytelling
  • Excellent writing and copy editing skills
  • Write and edit high-level material
  • Experience working with a diverse group of people in a team-based, collaborative environment
  • Demonstrated project management
  • High level of attention to detail and accuracy

Salary Information: The general salary range for this position is $59,000 – $65,000. You can expect to be paid a competitive and equitable salary. Factors used to determine salary include experience, knowledge, and skills for the position.
