Job Summary

The Senior Environmental Specialist will provide technical and regulatory direction, guidance and implementation of environmental compliance programs for PSEG Development projects in accordance with Federal, State and local regulations. This position is responsible for assuring facility / project environmental compliance with federal, state and local regulations, permits and corporate guidelines including air, waste, PCB’s, water, UST, SARA, SPCC management and environmental audit processes and will lead permitting efforts under advisement from subject matter expert. Procedures are prepared relating to compliance with environmental requirements and reports to regulatory agencies are developed. This Sr. Environmental Specialist will independently interface with consultants and regulatory agency representatives to develop or discuss complex environmental issues / projects.

Job Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and guide environmental programs and compliance efforts by identifying and evaluating compliance trends and recommend corrective action or system improvements. Develop and prepare reports to regulatory agencies. Identify and address compliance gaps and ensure day-to-day activities are environmentally compliant.
  • Prepare applications for renewable projects.
  • Independently interface with consultants and regulatory agency representatives to develop or discuss complex environmental issues / projects.
  • Lead activities of employees and contractors addressing the environmental impacts of our development projects under advisement of subject matter experts. Monitor work and ensure adherence to standards.
  • Foster activities to establish company-wide compliance programs, where appropriate.
  • Manage environmental schedules and costs and support budget development by generating and maintaining performance metrics (milestones, KPI’s and budget), interfacing with senior management and regulators.

Job Specific Qualifications

  • 8 Years experience with Bachelor’s Degree: Environmental Sciences, Engineering, Chemistry or Science; 14 year’s professional environmental experience in lieu of degree

Other Basic Qualifications:

  • Minimum 8 years of relevant experience in environmental compliance programs, environmental engineering or environmental consulting
  • Knowledge of Federal and State environmental regulations and compliance related to air, water, waste, remediation, land use permitting
  • Experience with budgeting, forecasting and cost control as it relates to environmental compliance budgets, planning and tracking
  • Minimum three (3) years’ experience in the Energy business, utility operations, Environmental management, Environmental Consulting, Construction or related area
  • Because the job requires driving to company locations and off-site assignments and events, must possess a valid U.S. driver’s license with a safe and satisfactory driver history

Preferred / Desired Skills:

  • Four (4) years of contractor oversight
  • Advanced degree in environmental sciences or engineering
