Cook, Recuperative Care Center – $1,500 Sign-On Bonus (Prorated Based On Weekly Schedule)

The mission of the Colorado Coalition for the Homeless is to work collaboratively toward the prevention of homelessness and the creation of lasting solutions for homeless and at-risk families, children, and individuals throughout Colorado. The Coalition advocates for and provides a continuum of housing and a variety of services to improve the health, well-being, and stability of those it serves.

The Colorado Coalition for the Homeless seeks a Cook to coordinate all facets of the kitchen and meal preparation in a brand-new facility and program! This position will ensure that all nutritional needs for the residents are met as well as ensure that all Health Department and other external requirements are followed. This is an exciting opportunity for someone with a passion for food preparation who wants to make a daily impact supporting some of Denver’s most vulnerable neighbors. This position is located at 2175 California Street, Denver, Colorado 80205and reports to the Food Services Manager.

Essential Job Functions

  1. This is a kitchen position responsible for food preparation, cooking, supporting the menu planning, supporting the food purchasing, and cleaning the kitchen and dining room for the SSRC.
  2. Plan nutritional meals and snacks – breakfast, lunch and dinner.
  3. Prepare and serve all meals in a respectful manner.
  4. Seek out and incorporate, to as great as degree as possible, resident input into menu planning.
  5. Ensure that all meals meet nutritional requirements.
  6. Shop for and/or order food from local vendors when delegated by Food Services Manager.
  7. Be aware of and maintain kitchen and dining area as per Dept. of Health and Sanitation; regulations and internal policies and procedures.
  8. Monitor upkeep and condition of food service equipment and supplies.
  9. Attend training provided by Departments of Health and Education for food service as required.
  10. Meet required COVID-19 vaccination(s), as defined by applicable law, regulation, or guidance from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
  11. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications Summary

  1. 1+ year Cooking/kitchen experience preferred.
  2. Current Colorado Serve Safe Certificate needed when program opens.
  3. Experience working in settings with individuals experiencing homelessness is preferred.
