As part one of the safest and most trusted financial institutions, the BNY Mellon Legal department mitigates risk and handles legal affairs to ensure the security of the company and its clients.
Job Description
This attorney will be a member of the Data, Intellectual Property, Technology & Innovation (DITI) Team within BNY Mellon’s Legal Department.
Responsibilities include:
- Advising on the strategy, planning and implementation of BNY Mellon’s technology projects and adoption of emerging technology (e.g., cloud, AI/ML, DLT).
- Drafting agreement templates and providing support with client negotiations in collaboration with business product attorneys.
- Keeping up to date on legal and regulatory developments in the financial services sector involving technology/emerging technologies and advising senior stakeholders of their potential impact to BNY Mellon and its subsidiaries.
- Providing legal support in responding to regulatory examinations and inquiries.
- Developing and leading training programs to educate various stakeholders on technology/emerging technology-related legal issues.
- Collaborating with public affairs, regulatory and regional colleagues to engage in the review and consultation of legislative policies and proposals related to technology.
Qualifications:
- 5+ years’ experience.
- Attorney with strong working knowledge of technology.
- Knowledge of emerging technology developments and use cases in the financial services sector desirable. Strong interest in same is critical.
- In-house counsel experience preferred.
Skills:
- Excellent contract drafting and negotiation skills.
- Must be articulate, organized, able to work in a collaborative manner and comfortable managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced and challenging, but highly rewarding environment.
- Proactive self-starter.

BNY Mellon assesses market data to ensure a competitive compensation package for our employees. The base salary for this position is expected to be between $108,000 and $234,000 per year at the commencement of employment. However, base salary if hired will be determined on an individualized basis, including as to experience and market location, and is only part of the BNYM total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, discretionary bonuses, short and long-term incentive packages, and Company-sponsored benefit programs.
This position is at-will and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, change in geographic location, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
