We’re seeking a future team member for the role of Principal, Data Governance to join our Enterprise Data Management team. This role is in Pittsburgh, PA , on a hybrid working basis.
Enterprise Data Management is focused on implementing enterprise data & governance, delivering the firm’s master data strategy, driving holistic access to data via our Lake, and enabling the business to deliver advanced outcomes for ourselves and our customers using AI/ML techniques.
In this role, you will:
- Work on some of the most complex and interesting problems at the intersection of two dynamic Industries Finance and Technology
- Identify and develop how our authoritative data sources can change the way our clients operate, and how Banking is done today and ensure that we have regulatory compliance
- Influence decisions on Platform Strategy, Client Engagement and implementing Innovative technology-based solutions
- Interact with other high-performing teams within BNY Mellon to inspire innovation and champion change throughout the bank
- Establish large and fascinating data landscape currently not available anywhere else
To be successful in this role, we’re seeking the following:
- Experienced hands-on Data and Architecture Management, from concept to implementation
- Strong stakeholder management and people skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and management expectations accordingly to senior stakeholders
- Experience with financial services data domains, complex data structures with an aim to simplify data architecture
- Team player and acts on own initiative, taking the opportunity to identify opportunities
- People Leadership, be able to inspire and build momentum across a global team
Required:
- You have 15+ years of experience, with at least 3 years in a Data Management leadership role
- Knowledge of financial products
- You have strong analytical and management skills and the ability to independently own products or their components end-to-end, with a demonstrable track record of product delivery
- Experience in organizing, researching, and analyzing stakeholder needs. You bridge the technical and business worlds, ensuring we are building the right products with a combination of vision, and market/user/competitor research
- Experience in business analysis, user research, maturity road-mapping, change management, planning and reporting
- Worked in Agile environment and played an active role in scrums such as backlog refinement, sprint planning and sprint demo. Adept in using backlog prioritization techniques to define sprint goals and enable iterative deliveries.
- A working knowledge of data governance and architecture frameworks, best practices and how they are effectively supported by good products, in particular Data Architecture, Metadata Management, Data Lineage but also data quality, data privacy, data use and records retention
- Interested in and familiar with core areas in applied machine learning such as NLP, computer vision, and personalization
- Experience working with data domain metadata and products that harness large data sets
- Familiar with the software development lifecycle (SDLC)
- You have a view on what it takes to build a scalable platform, shared components and services that can serve multiple distribution channels
- The ability to build consensus amongst a wide range of partners including businesses and functions, technology, operations, legal & compliance
- You are a team player and can roll your sleeves up when you need to, and are also able to lead and influence conversations with all involved parties
- Ability to navigate a matrix organization and the ability to influence peers by articulating the product offering and value to business partners
- You are a self-starter, with the curiosity, energy, drive and stamina to seek out and bring to fruition new opportunities, capability enhancements and improved ways of working

- Bachelor’s degree
- Experience working with vendor data management products including Data Architecture, Data Lineage, Metadata Management / Data Model Management tools
- Product/project management certification
- Data management certification

10-12 years of total work experience preferred. Experience preferred in architectural leadership of batch processing in financial services, articulating concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences, applying service oriented architecture (SOA) principles and transitioning from legacy architectures to SOA, data modeling, including conceptual, logical, physical, warehouse and data mart models. Broad knowledge of information technology, software development principles, emerging technologies and project management techniques preferred.. BNY Mellon assesses market data to ensure a competitive compensation package for our employees. The base salary for this position is expected to be between $119,000 and per year at the commencement of employment. However, base salary if hired will be determined on an individualized basis, including as to experience and market location, and is only part of the BNYM total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, discretionary bonuses, short and long-term incentive packages, and Company-sponsored benefit programs.
This position is at-will and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, change in geographic location, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
