Police Cadet – Campus Police

Minimum Qualifications:

Must reach his/her 21st birthday on the date of commissioning. High School Diploma/GED. Successfully Pass the U.S. Department of Justice Security Risk Assessment. Must pass Written Exam, Physical Agility, Polygraph, Psychological, Medical, Drug Screening, Oral Board Exam and thorough Background Check. Must possess a valid Texas Class C Driver’s License.

JOB DESCRIPTION:
To attend and satisfactorily complete a comprehensive training program with a police academy that meets or exceeds all standards set by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement, TCOLE

Position requires:

Written test, PT test, and 16-week on-site academy attendance in Austin, TX.

POLICE DEPARTMENT MISSION:
The University of Texas Medical Branch Police Department strives to provide protection and service in a courteous manner to the faculty, staff, students, patients, and visitors of UTMB in conformance with the Regents rules and Regulations, UTMB policies, or federal, state, or local laws and ordinances. The Department also implements programs that are aimed at preserving the assets of UTMB.

SALARY:

Starting Salary for Cadet: $45,255

Police Career Ladder:

Police Officer: $50,440 < 1 year
Police Officer: $51,925 < 2 years
Police Officer: $53,256 < 3 years
Police Officer: $54,384 < 4 years
Police Officer: $55,620 ≥ 4 years

Police Officer II: $60,000 (< 4 years Police Officer experience and an Intermediate License)
Police Officer II: $72,811 (2>: 4 years of experience)
Police Officer II: $77,995 (2-: 8 years of experience)
Police Officer II: $81,441 (2-: 12 years of experience)
Police Officer II: $85,204 (2″.16 years of experience)
Police Officer II: $88,966 (2-: 20 years of experience)

TCOLE Certification Incentive Pay up to $1,620 annually
College Education Incentive Pay up to $1,140 annually

SPECIFIC JOB RELATED DUTIES:

  • This position requires a thorough background check.
  • Attends classes and maintains comprehensive notes of subject covered in classes.
  • Prepares research papers.
  • Participates in the physical training program, firearms training, defensive tactics program, and practical problems.
  • Complies with assignments and instructions given by the Director of the University of Texas System Police or by any member of the Academy staff.
  • Adheres to rules and regulations promulgated by the Board of Regents of the University of Texas System.
  • Adheres to internal controls and reporting structure.
  • Performs related duties as required.

PREFERRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

Prefer completion of 60 semester college hours. In lieu of 60 college hours, 30 semester college hours plus 2 years of active military service with honorable discharge, or 30 semester college hours plus 1 year of continuous employment as a Police Guard by a component institution within the University of Texas System Police.
