Civil Family Violence Victim Advocate
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Civil Family Violence Victim Advocate is to provide services to victims seeking protection, safety, and support services. This position will provide services to victims seeking civil court remedies, advocacy, counseling and case management.
Accountable and responsible for the following results:
Direct Services to Victims:
- Complete intake and needs assessment and assist with the completion of all necessary civil court paperwork while informing about the civil court process.
- Provides in-person or telephone contact, including support in designing and implementing safety plan.
- Provides information about civil Restraining Orders and civil remedies including restitution, divorce, custody and visitation.
- Assist with registering for CT SAVIN.
- Develops a system of referral for self, children, and dependents, to CDVS programs and other services in the community served by the court, referring victims for immediate and/or on-going services
- Administer SRI (Supplemental Risk Indicator) to all victims of intimate partner violence.
- Provide information and linkage to FVVA and Adult Probation.
Advocacy:
- Develop victims referral protocols from the Family Violence Victims Advocates.
- Develop a process for on-going communication between civil and criminal courts.
- Obtain and document victims permission to release information.
- Maintains collaborative relationship with court personnel, attending appropriate meetings
- Develop and maintain a system of referrals to state and local resources including utilizing United Way 2-1-1.
- Provide advocacy on behalf of victims when appropriate within the community.
Administrative:
- Complete progress notes, within 24 hours, documenting progress in ETO on service goals and objectives, psychosocial histories, and other documentation within UCDVS guidelines for content and timeliness.
- Attends regular meetings and trainings called by CCADV
- Keeps DVS Resource Manual current, adding new resources as appropriate including United Way 2-1-1.
- Attends regular meetings called by FVVA Supervisor and monthly full staff meetings
- Participates in research and evaluation projects approved by CCADV
- Attends community meetings as requested by FVVA Supervisor.
- Attends training sessions, workshops, seminars as requested by supervisor, or as needed for professional development, or as required for accreditation or licensing.
- May be required to use own vehicle on company business
- Regular and consistent attendance is an essential function of this position
- May perform other assignments and duties as assigned

Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- BA in human services field or High School Equivalent and 8 years relevant experience in lieu of degree required
- Must have comprehensive knowledge of civil and criminal court system as related to domestic violence issues
- Must be able to obtain and maintain the domestic violence counselor certification per CGS 52-146k before providing direct service to clients, followed with six-hour recertification yearly
- Bi-lingual (English/Spanish) desirable. Demonstrated oral and written skills required
- Strong counseling, advocacy, networking, and crisis intervention skills required
- Strong Written Communication Skills
- Must be able to integrate and manage information quickly and efficiently. Must have knowledge of diverse community resources
- Sensitivity to Domestic Violence issues
- Must be able to work as part of a team, maintaining a professional attitude and respectful demeanor with clients, co-workers, and supervisors
- Must have working knowledge of computer applications, and if applicable ability to navigate through electronic health record.
- Must have and maintain an acceptable driving record and be insurable at a reasonable rate under the Organizations auto insurance plan.
