Description

Third Way Center’s Joan Farley Academy, is looking for a part time Art Teacher to work as a member of our team working with at risk students ages 13 to 20. We are looking for a creative and dynamic person who likes to be challenged and seek to learn and better themselves professionally and personally. Our mission is to provide a continuum of services where at risk students can work through their traumas and learn to take responsibility for their actions and lives to become productive members of society.

The teacher’s primary responsibility is to perform all duties in a manner that is reflective of the mission and philosophy of Third Way Center. The teacher shall be sensitive to the cultural differences among the children, families, and Third Way Center staff and respond appropriately to these differences. The teacher is required to manage the classroom and maintain high expectations for student achievement in an alternative high school setting. Our mission is to provide a continuum of services where at risk youth can work through their traumas and learn to take responsibility for their actions and lives to become productive members of society. Our teachers are active members of the school and treatment team that carry out our programmatic goals as well as work with the youth on their educational goals.

FTE: .5 (20 hours)

Art Teacher responsibilities are as follows:

  • Provide a variety of artistic outlets for students to express themselves
  • Collaborate with core content teachers to deliver art infused core curriculum lessons once a week
  • Collaborate with community art partners for enhanced student learning opportunities
  • Work within EARSS art supplies budget
  • Create and implement lessons for each class period
  • Maintain classroom management including counseling and crisis intervention when needed
  • Determine and report individual student grades to Educational Coordinator
  • Attend and participate in all in service activities when appropriate
  • Knowledge of the histories and IEP’s for youth in order to give individualized care
  • Teach youth different skills based on their current abilities in order to enhance their opportunity for normalization and self determination
  • Work as a team and take direction considering students’ needs
  • Prepare lesson plans if absent

Qualifications

Bachelors or Masters degree from an accredited college or university in a field of study related to the work assignment, along with a valid Colorado Initial or Professional Teacher license with an endorsement in Special Education from CDE or must be willing to add the Special Education Generalist as an endorsement.

The candidate must also possess a current valid Colorado driver’s license, have a clean driving record (no DUI/DWAI in the last five years) and criminal record, be at least 22 years of age and obtain CPR/First Aid certification.
