Located in the Office of College and Career Success (OCCS), the Department of Early College and Career Education (ECCE) provides CPS students with opportunities to take career and college courses while in high school, saving them time and money while pursuing their post-secondary education.
The Data Analyst will contribute to a diverse array of projects that support the goal of creating access to college and career instruction, advising, and ultimately enrollment in a postsecondary pathway for all CPS students. This position will design and implement data collection and reporting systems to continuously enhance the quality and breadth of data-informed decisions and communications. Additionally, the Data Analyst will conduct analyses in order to inform day-to-day practice, drive strategy and policy, and to monitor key program and student outcomes. The Data Analyst will also serve as the internal lead on accessing key CPS data systems and will be responsible for managing on-demand data requests to answer key questions about the initiatives and operations of ECCE. This position will report to the Manager of Business Operations in ECCE.
The Data Analyst will be held accountable for the following responsibilities:
- Serve as the system administrator for the Work-Based Learning team’s Customer Relationship Management (CRM) System
- Develop processes to strategically and systematically collect, archive, and report work-based learning data in an accurate and timely manner, using automated processes where possible.
- Implement key processes of the annual summer internship program
- Analyze and visualize data on a project basis to enhance understanding of and usage by key stakeholders.
- Prepare and disseminate analysis reports, briefs, and presentations; communicate results meaningfully to various audiences both internal and external.
- Engage in capacity building with internal staff around using data to inform practice and strategy.
- Analyze CPS and 3rd party student-level data, handle data requests and special analyses, support grant proposals and funder reporting, and provide data and reports to external research partners.
- Assist in determining key future analyses and metrics based on findings from internal and external research, literature reviews, and collaboration with external partners.
- Lead or participate in workgroups with internal staff and external partners to support strategic planning, continuous improvement, and the development of new initiatives.
- Ensure data quality and integrity across Offices
- Adhere to a set of guiding principles for analytic practice as established by the Data Governance Council
- Work with approved enterprise analytic tool sets. (SAS, SQL)
- Compile, manipulate, and analyze data using appropriate statistical techniques
- Participate in District’s Data Analyst User Group
- Perform related duties as required
In order to be successful and achieve the above responsibilities, the Data Analyst must possess the following qualifications:
Education Required:
- A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university is required; Focus in education, measurement, psychology, social science, public policy, economics, or a related field requiring quantitative coursework, is preferred.
- Master’s degree preferred
Experience Required:
- A minimum of two (2) years of professional experience in a relevant field and a role requiring data analysis skills is required
- One or more years of experience as a business analyst or systems analyst preferred
- Experience managing and/or engaging with CRM systems required
- Familiarity with Taleo, PeopleSoft, or similar systems preferred
- Experience writing code with data analytic tools (SAS, R, SPSS, STATA, etc)
- Experience drafting ad hoc surveys, programming content into online survey platforms (Alchemer, Survey Monkey, Qualtrics, etc.), and presenting findings to stakeholders
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to use or learn SAS required
- Advanced experience with Excel and gSuite applications
- Exceptional organizational, communication (oral and written), and problem-solving skills
- Strong attention to detail and data quality assurance
- Ability to deliver high-quality results in a fast-paced environment, respond immediately to multiple constituencies and meet established deadlines
- Able to lead independently under general guidance and as part of a team
- Capable of coordinating efforts and collaborating with a variety of individuals having conflicting agendas

Conditions of Employment
As a condition of employment with the Chicago Public Schools (CPS), employees are required to:
- Establish/Maintain Chicago Residency – Employees are required to live within the geographic boundaries of the City of Chicago within six months of their CPS hire date and maintain residency throughout their employment with the district. This Chicago residency requirement does not apply to part-time/temporary positions.
- Be Fully Vaccinated or Submit to Weekly COVID-19 Testing -Employees are required to be fully vaccinated within 30 days of their hire date. Full vaccination is defined as at least two weeks after your second shot of a two-shot vaccination course, or at least two weeks after a one-shot vaccination course. Unvaccinated staff must submit to weekly testing.
CPS Non-Union Job Grade: S06
Estimated Annual Salary Range: $56,000 – $71,000
Final salary offers are dependent upon candidate qualifications.
