Pay: $48,214.40 annually.

Work Schedule: Monday – Friday; 8:00am – 5:00pm, one night per week until 6:30 by staff rotation

This is a professional staff position that provides direct services to participants in the WIC program. The dietitians provide nutrition education, community referrals, breastfeeding education and support. They are responsible for determining the client’s program eligibility based on nutritional/medical risk and assignment of the appropriate supplemental food package for qualifying women, infants and children. The registered dietitians in WIC provide the follow-up education for clients found with risks which are assigned a high priority per program protocols.

Assessment:

  • Assigns nutrition risk for client eligibility.
  • Determines frequency and type of client follow-up appointments.
  • Uses goal setting and stage of change principles to assess client’s state of behavioral change.
  • Provides nutrition counseling for clients and families and follow-up counseling to clients determined to be high risk.
  • Accurately collects client’s medical data.

Provides Education

  • Uses motivational counseling methods.
  • Makes appropriate community and medical referrals.
  • Accurately reads immunization records.
  • Provides community outreach.
  • Provides breastfeeding education, promotion and support.
  • Prescribes appropriate WIC food package.

Manage Record Keeping:

  • Authorizes and coordinates special formula issuance.
  • Schedules future WIC appointments appropriate for program requirements.
  • Completes documentation in the program software timely and thoroughly.
  • Meets productivity standards.
  • Reports success stories.

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in Food, Nutrition or related Science and completes a dietetic route accredited by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. If not already licensed in the State of KS, the new hire obtains a temporary license from KDADS – Kansas Credentialing for Dietitians, Topeka KS within 60 days of hire. Registered by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. Or successfully passes the registration examination within twelve months of employment if not yet registered by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. If not already registered obtains permanent license from the State of Kansas after passing the registration exam.

Preferred Qualifications: Knowledge of women’s health and pediatrics preferred. Certified as a breastfeeding educator preferred.
