The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

The Instructional Designer Consults with faculty on online pedagogy, technology integration, and course design. Supports the design and development of new and existing blended and/or online course offerings. Provides support to the various academic departments and students in the use of e-learning technology tools and the different components of online course management systems in designing courses, training, planning, developing, documenting, and testing online courses.

Responsibilities

  • (50%) Serve as a member of the instructional design team and collaborate with other instructional designers, video producers, and subject-matter experts on creating high-quality interactive online content. Support faculty in the development of online/blended course materials utilizing appropriate technology tools. Train, track, and coordinate course subject-matter experts to support the successful design and delivery of online and blended courses. Plan, develop, and facilitate training workshops on best practices for online instruction and the use of e-learning technology tools. Conduct comprehensive reviews of course content and materials to ensure alignment with learning objectives, instructional design principles, and quality standards. Identify and address any inconsistencies, errors, or discrepancies in course content, formatting, and assessments to maintain a high level of quality and consistency.
  • (45%) Assist faculty and students in the design and delivery of online exams. Support faculty and students with online course delivery. Research, evaluate, and integrate new and emerging e-learning technology tools to promote student learning. Participate and support campus-wide distance education initiatives and projects. Keep current on distance education and instructional design theories, applications, and trends.
  • (5%) Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree required with 2-3 year’s related work experience.
  • Master’s degree in Instructional Design and Technology, Instructional Systems, Educational Systems, Educational Technology, or a related field from a regionally accredited institution preferred
  • Instructional Design experience
  • Experience directly related to online learning and/or instructional technology
  • Experience in online course development and/or in teaching in an online environment, including assessment of student outcomes
  • Demonstrated experience with one or more of the major LMS, including Canvas, Blackboard, Desire2Learn, or Moodle. Preference given to Canvas experience
  • A good understanding of Web2.0 tools/mobile apps as well as other learning technology tools such as lecture capture, audio/video editing, social media, etc. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite such as Word, Excel, PPT
  • Experience providing professional development to faculty relevant to both online and/or face-to-face instruction
  • Experience implementing distance-learning initiatives and/or creating a strategic vision for integrating new technologies for better learning outcomes for students
  • Supervisory experience
  • Strong work ethic with demonstrated collaborative and coordinative skills
  • Excellent communicator in both oral and written communication
  • Experience with computerized systems
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills
  • Strong communication skills, a solid and current knowledge of instructional and social technologies/media, experience with web-based conferencing tools, video/audio production experience working with college faculty in technology training
  • Web development skills; specifically, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, XML
  • Upbeat attitude; willing to investigate and recommend new technologies
  • Bachelor’s Degree required with 2-3 year’s related work experience.
