About the Secretary of State:
It is the mission of the office of Secretary of State to deliver to the people of Indiana government-as-a-service that focuses on unqualified integrity and accuracy in our elections, consistent and principled regulatory methods, ceaseless protection of Hoosier investors, and the most efficient use of taxpayer resources.
Salary Statement:
This position traditionally starts at an annual salary of $75,000 but may be commensurate with education and job experience.
About the Job:
This position is responsible for acting as the Indiana Auto Dealer Services Division’s enforcement attorney, managing the Division’s administrative litigation docket, and assisting/advising Division Co-Directors and staff as necessary.
A Day in the Life:
During a normal day in this job you can expect to be tasked with the following:
- Act as the Division’s legal counsel and enforcement attorney
- Supervise the legal assistant and any legal interns
- Assist the Co-Directors with statutory and regulatory drafting
- Assist the Co-Directors with the statutory and regulatory processes
- Collaborate with the Senior Investigator on the Division’s investigations and complaints, including criminal case referrals
- Develop and maintain policies and procedures to help maintain compliance with federal, state, and local law
- Handle escalated customer and constituent matters as needed
What You’ll Need for Success:
You must meet the following requirements to be considered for employment:
- J.D.
- Admitted to the Indiana State Bar and be in good standing.
- Experience collaborating with law enforcement or internal investigations
- Experience delegating work to a paralegal or legal assistant
- Experience with Indiana administrative law
- A collaborative approach to work
- Ability to effectively communicate with dealers, consumers, other agencies, and law enforcement
- Strong writing and speaking skills
- Comfortable dealing with time-sensitive and confidential matters
