The DIA organization in US Innovative Medicines is the Novartis engine for achieving best in class Healthcare provider (HCP) experience and transformative digital patient engagement. The Enterprise Analytics and Data Science group within DIA is seeking a highly motivated machine learning expert and leader to push the frontiers in HCP segmentation and digital patient engagement. The person will possess deep technical expertise in machine learning and its applications in HCP segmentation and digital channel selection for “next best action”. The person will operate as player/coach and leading a team of data scientists centralized across therapeutic areas. In addition to being a technical expert, this person will also engage with commercial partners to bring meaning and context to analytic outcomes, driving actionability of learning and results. The person will partner with other data science organizations in Novartis to develop “best in class” methods/algorithms.

This positions report to the Executive Director, Data Science within the Data, Insights and Analytics team. This leader will work with Integrated Insights, Predictive Analytics & Customer engagement, Finance, Marketing Strategy, and Agency. This person will operate across brands and therapeutic areas in a Center of Excellence model. The person will keep abreast of the latest thinking and best in class methods within the industry

Your responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Lead the data science team in the development and implementation of innovative data-driven solutions that drive business growth
• Develop and implement data science strategies that align with the company’s goals and objectives
• Manage and mentor the data science team to ensure the delivery of high-quality work
• Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in data science and identify opportunities to leverage these advancements to enhance our products and services
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure the successful implementation of data-driven solutions
• Design, build, and deploy deep learning models using various programming languages such as Python, TensorFlow, and PyTorch
• Take a hands-on role and deliver on highly visible projects
• Bring a “can-do” attitude and teamwork, and inspire others on culture change
• Ensure adaption of data science product with the business users to drive outcome and patient impact
• Develop methodology to measure the impact of Next best actions

This position will be located at the East Hanover, NJ site and will not have the ability to be located remotely.

The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $212,000 and $318,000 per year; however, while salary ranges are effective from 1/1/23 through 12/31/23, fluctuations in the job market may necessitate adjustments to pay ranges during this period. Further, final pay determinations will depend on various factors, including, but not limited to geographical location, experience level, knowledge, skills and abilities. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a sign-on bonus, restricted stock units, and discretionary awards in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment. If hired, employee will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.

Minimum requirements

What you’ll bring to the role:
• Advanced degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Statistics, or related field
• Minimum of 10 years of experience in data science, with 5+ years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry
• Build and deploy scalable machine learning models using cloud-based services such as AWS and Azure
• Strong understanding of deep learning algorithms, statistics, and recommendation system
• Proficient in programming languages such as Python, Spark, TensorFlow, and PyTorch
• Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to identify creative solutions to complex problems
• Strong leadership skills with experience in managing and mentoring data science teams
• Excellent communication skills and ability to present complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
