We look for team-oriented individuals, to help us create quality experiences for every young person in our summer camp programs. Leads are vital members of our summer team. Position Details

The Camp Counselor Lead – is a lead position at the City’s Day camps. This position is on the leadership team and coordinates, designs, and manages the daily program activities, staff, and campers. The lead is responsible for ensuring an effective and cohesive operation on a day-to-day basis. The primary position responsibilities and areas of impact are but not limited to:

  • Manages the operations of the day camp site, is the onsite supervisor for the counselors at the site; conveys expectations of the program and prepares recommendations for the improvement of the program.
  • Develops, organizes, and conveys the weekly program plans to the counselors in the camp setting.
  • Assists Sr. Recreation Supervisor in the delivery of staff orientation, trainings, and staff meetings.
  • Prepares for the program by organizing supplies, communication prior to and during the camps to parents and being a communication support for counselors.
  • Pro-actively identifies and solves problems and areas of concern for staff, campers, and parents.
  • Establishes and maintains high levels of a positive staff working environment by providing mentorship and support to counselors.
  • Assists counselors in the supervision of the campers and the management of their needs.
  • Attends weekly leadership meetings.
  • Completes reporting procedures for all accidents/incidents, behaviors, medications, or emergency forms.
  • Supports counselors in behavioral management of participants.

While these areas are the primary focus of the position, we believe strongly in teamwork and employees may be called upon to perform a variety of duties in their roles with the City.

Position Requirements

  • 19 years of age or older
  • Three (3) years’ experience working in a recreation, education, or related field
  • Previous experience supervising seasonal staff, with the ability to relate to youth and adults (Preferred)
  • CPR and First Aid certification desired or must be completed with in the first 30 days of employment
  • Previous experience working with children required, especially Autism or behavior disorders.
  • Experience developing and implementing programs and activities, good communication skills, teamwork, and flexibility.
  • Experience working with students with disabilities.
  • Part-time/Temporary/Seasonal (PTS) position, non-exempt

In addition, the following is required for this specific position: drivers check (must have valid Driver’s License and excellent driving record).
