Position Overview
Kiewit Infrastructure Engineering (KIE) has immediate openings for several dynamic Traffic Engineers with 4+ years of experience, for our growing Traffic/ITS Group in Lone Tree, Colorado (Denver Metro area). You will be part of our rapidly growing Infrastructure Design Department, which includes structural, geotechnical, MOT, pavement, utilities, drainage, roadway, rail, traffic, and materials disciplines. This infrastructure design group is a multi-faceted and leading-edge division of Kiewit with best-in-class technical expertise focused on the design-build delivery of infrastructure projects.
We added over 200 Engineers last year to our Transportation Design Team, with plans to add over 200 more due to a strong backlog of work, a record year of new bid opportunities and recent design/build wins! We don’t hire for a project – we hire to build careers and legacies in our industry.
As a Traffic Engineer, you will be expected to coordinate with project teams in Canada, Mexico, and the United States to design and produce traffic engineering designs for design/build and other alternative delivery projects in North America.

Kiewit Infrastructure Engineering’s Design Build/Alternative Delivery team are driving clients to turn to Kiewit during all stages of design-build projects to manage their multi-disciplined design teams to improve schedule, control costs and minimize risk. Location
These positions can be located in either our Lone Tree Colorado or Bellevue Washington offices. We offer relocation assistance to candidates outside of those areas.
Responsibilities
- Lead/produce highway and traffic design tasks – in the following traffic sub-disciplines – for North America projects through coordination with multi-disciplinary design teams:
- Signing
- Pavement Markings
- Intelligent Transportation System (ITS)
- Traffic Signals
- Lighting / Electrical
- Supervise, mentor, and evaluate junior staff
- Conduct traffic operations and safety analysis, macroscopic to microscopic traffic simulation modeling, and various traffic engineering studies
- Oversee Traffic investigations in the field and recommend traffic safety enhancements on basis of field studies
- Analyze and evaluate complex design and construction phasing plans to formulate effective traffic engineering strategies, and to ensure compliance with the feasibility and safety requirements
- Create preliminary design concepts and alternatives for traffic signals, signing and striping, lighting/electrical, and ITS features to support cost estimating
- Execute final design of project traffic elements such as traffic signals, ITS, signing and striping, lighting/electrical, and maintenance of traffic (MOT) plans
Qualifications
4+ years of transportation project experience, performing similar traffic engineering duties as outlined above
Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Civil Engineering. An emphasis in traffic engineering is desirable.
Registered as a Professional Engineer. PTOE is desirable.
Demonstrable knowledge and experience of designing traffic signal systems, signing/striping, ITS, and/or lighting/electrical elements for transportation projects
Familiarity with design-build delivery is preferred
Working knowledge and experience with MicroStation (OpenRoads Designer (ORD)) or AutoCAD / Civil 3D platforms
Skills in traffic simulation / modeling software including Synchro/SimTraffic, Vissim, TransModeler, HCS, or other similar platforms are desired
General knowledge of MOT is preferred, and experience developing construction plans for transportation projects is ideal.

Base Compensation: $96,000 – $120,000
(Actual compensation is subject to variation due to such factors as education, experience, skillset, and/or location)
