AWS Cloud Data Engineer

SUMMARY:

Designs and creates decarbonization software for ENGIE’s Ellipse platform utilizing data engineering and data science capabilities. Ellipse provides ENGIE’s clients with analytical insight powering their zero-carbon strategies.

Key skills include designing and developing data-centric software running on AWS using data processing technologies such as python, lambda, glue plus other advanced technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, etc.

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS AND ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Expert in data engineering and data science building data-centric software modeling carbon reduction scenarios in a web based analytical platform. Writes Python, ETL in AWS Glue, and Lamba functions to process complicated data powering data visualization and monitoring tools particularly for time series datasets.
  • Responsibilities include one or more of the following:
    • Analyze product requirements identifying business issues and translate them into data stories for implementation
    • Design and implement reliable and scalable data processing modules
    • Design and implement the transactional layer of the application.
    • Design and implement new data OLTP and OLAP models using Postgres SQL and Redshift for implementation.
    • Construct infrastructure-as-code, APIs, software testing and CI/CD workflows on the platform
    • Advise and support the various teams in the technical choices related to the proper use of our data
  • Incorporates analytical and machine learning modules into data processing pipelines.
  • Provides visibility into runtime of the system, with good monitoring of the underlying infrastructure.
  • Incorporates data quality tools and data lineage principles into our platform, enhancing data reliability and business decission-making.
  • Serves MLOps functions for advanced data processing capabilities on platform.
  • Translate Agile software development stories into data software supporting needed functionality.
  • Produce performance estimates, estimate level of effort, and track progress on a daily basis
  • Partner with DevOps team to size and design the infrastructure necessary to support our data computing needs
  • Adhere to all ENGIE security and privacy requirements for this critical platform

QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Certification/

Knowledge

  • Computer Science BS/MS degree
  • Non-CS BS/MS degree with other software related training

Experience:

  • 7+ years of data engineering experience
  • 5+ years cloud engineering experience with an emphasis on AWS technologies
  • Experience creating data repositories support web applications and REST APIs.
  • Experience with high throughput, big volume, fast response time, scalable systems
  • Energy or financial services experience a plus
  • Very good knowledge in the following languages: Python, PySpark, SQL Very good knowledge of AWS Cloud Services Infrastructure as code skills (Terraform) Expertise in large-scale data processing using distributed systems such as Spark Knowledge of RDBMS, noSQL and Influxdb databases and especially in design and implementation Expertise in data governance (timeseries, database, Big Data, etc.)
  • Good knowledge of data structures Strong sensitivity to DevOps culture and software craftmanship
  • An appetite and ideally an experience in Machine Learning

Skills/Abilities:

  • Experience with Python and Typescript
  • Postgres SQL and Redshift hands on experience
  • AWS Glue and Lambda background
  • Data modelling skills for OLTP and OLAP systems
  • Strong familiarity with AWS cloud environments including S3, Glue, and IAM
  • Good written and verbal communication skills including the ability to work effectively as a contributor in a global (USA/France) technical team environment.
  • French language skills a plus

    The pay range for this role is: $123,000- 185,000

    Pay range is based on several factors and may vary in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits. Final salary and offer will be determined by the applicant’s background, experience, skills, internal equity, and alignment with geographical market data. This position is eligible for our comprehensive and competitive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, and basic life insurance.
