The Position
Summary:
The Senior Manager will contribute to a dynamic team developing, implementing and executing comprehensive and strategic communications activities that improve awareness of Genentech and our medicines among key corporate audiences, and ultimately meet business needs of product brands and the organization. They should demonstrate an ability to be a self-starter and problem solver that can drive communications strategies in both traditional news media and social and digital media, and have a strong record of delivering results.
The Senior Manager will serve as a media spokesperson for the company and assigned medicines, and will frequently interact with and advise senior management, as well as partner with numerous functional partners within Communications (e.g. Corporate, Internal, Digital) and other parts of the company (Commercial, Clinical Development, Government Affairs, Legal, Regulatory, etc.).
Responsibilities:
- Participate in the development of external communications strategies and implement the overall external communications plans for oncology medicines; including public relations for new or existing medicines
- Engage reporters and social media influencers to reach patients, providers and other audiences around milestones; prepare company spokespeople for media interviews and act as company spokesperson
- Maintain thorough scientific knowledge of Genentech’s marketed and pipeline cancer medicines and approach to disease
- Have an understanding of important biotech topics including clinical trial design, drug development, regulatory decision making and public policy
- Effectively manage high-profile product issues and crises
- Collaborate with Roche’s Global Product Strategy partners, including International Communications and Global Media Relations teams in Basel, Switzerland, to ensure aligned global product messaging and approach to key milestones
- Be a strategic counselor and go-to person for high-level communications strategy with management and commercial teams
- Manage Public Relations agencies working in support of our medicines. Be accountable for associated budgets and resources
- Measure and evaluate the effectiveness of Public Relations programs to position Genentech’s products in competitive environments and demonstrate results to partners, including Commercial
Qualifications:
- Ability to work independently without close supervision or direction, while maintaining team approach and managing time effectively
- Ability to interact successfully and influence peers and management
- Superior relationship-management skills
- Outstanding oral, written and presentation skills
- Media strategy and media relations experience
- Proficiency in both long-term strategic planning and impromptu on-deadline performance
- Strong analytical skills and business sense
- Strategic and creative approach to communications and program development

Requirements:
- Experience within a PR agency or in-house at another company, launching external communications campaigns and awareness activities for new medicines
- Understanding of biopharma industry and regulatory environment
- Interest in oncology, experience preferred
- Candidates with 7-10 years relevant experience will be considered

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of South San Francisco, CA is $115,400.00-$214,400.00. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance. This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
