Summary:
Hitachi Particle Engineering and Services, Inc. is looking for an experienced Mechanical Engineer to provide “hands-on” technical direction to, and coordination of, other project team members (e.g. engineers, and CAD drafters and document control) under some supervision. Responsible for the design (for functionality as well as for cost reduction), implementation, testing, and troubleshooting of highly complex mechanical and electro-mechanical subsystems used in the LINAC products. Project management responsibility includes input into and adherence to budgets and schedules.
Responsibilities:
Engineering design of complex mechanical and electro-mechanical devices:
- Specifies and performs or oversees relevant engineering test, calculations, or other work needed to complete design.
- Design work includes layout drawings, interpretation of specifications which includes both in-house and customer specs, and collection and interpretation of information from multiple sources.
- Oversee production of appropriate documentation of design work, primarily by guiding work of designers and drafters and document control.
- Prepares, reviews, and/or approves engineering documents related to design work.
Guides procurement of parts and material for construction:
- Interfaces with external suppliers and internal shop personnel regarding fabrication or assembly details and to resolve technical problems.
- Writes test procedures, manufacturing procedures or specifications relevant to new design.
- Participates in process development of new or specialized fabrication processes.
Other responsibilities:
- Problem solving by the application of sound, broad based engineering knowledge
- Provides work leadership and technical training to lower level technical personnel.
- Communication with customers and suppliers.
- Establish or update written assembly, test and calibration procedures
- Establish or update written procedures related to Quality first article inspections processes.
Qualifications:
- 3-5 years of experience in mechanical and electro-mechanical engineering role is required.
- BSME/MSME or equivalency is required.
- Extensive familiarity with materials, fabrication, assembly processes of high vacuum and cooling systems is required.
- Strong computer aided design (CAD) skills; experience with SolidWorks required.
- Project Management (developing project specifications, schedules and costs) experience is desired.
- Knowledge of accelerator structure design and related manufacturing technologies a plus
- Knowledge of RoHS Directive a plus.
- Ability to work effectively with others in a team-oriented environment and to interface effectively with other departments.
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office products; Experience with Microsoft Project a plus
- General knowledge of ISO 9001 standards.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Web search literate.
- Accurate and detailed oriented.
- Proficient with setting daily priorities.
- Ability to multi-task and be flexible.
- Willingness to learn new tasks/cross training.
For California only (as required by California’s Pay Transparency for Pay Equity Act (SB 1162): The expected salary for this position in our California office is $60,000 – 90,000. Pay is determined based on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, depth of experience in the practice area. Employees are eligible to participate in Hitachi America’s variable pay program, subject to the program’s conditions and restrictions.
