Assistant Director of Human Resources Information Systems
The Opportunity
The Assistant Director of Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS) will oversee both the strategic development and day to day work of Mines Workday modules including Human Capital Management, Compensation, Recruitment, Learning, Talent Management, and associated processes within Workday. The position requires an experienced HR professional who can understand complex business requirements and envision new and improved business processes and Workday solutions to streamline operations and create efficiency. The position will develop relationships and collaborate with stakeholders across all functional areas (e.g., HR, Payroll, Accounting, Budget, ITS, Operations, Research, etc.) to maintain and develop processes that will support best in class operations and an excellent employee experience.
Responsibilities
HR Systems Administration
- Manage the deployment, monitoring, maintenance, development, upgrade to support Workday HR for campus;
- Drive continuous improvement and service delivery excellence within the HR functional area, by ensuring a well-controlled system environment;
- Provide recommendations to utilize current and new functionalities, and design business processes, within Workday to advance HR strategies;
- Advise and influence campus needs and leverage the capabilities of Workday to maximize system efficiencies;
- Support Workday system upgrades, testing, and other data management and integration activities;
- Provide project management oversight for decentralized projects, programs, and initiatives related to systems;
- Perform role security administration for HR access across campus, with heightened awareness of position management standards, and confidentiality;
- Oversee position management for the University, partnering with Budget and Controller’s office;
- Ensure Workday business processes are current, and align with regulatory requirements;
- Provide support to the HR Payroll team related to mass data changes, may include position loads, salary increases, benefit changes, etc.
- Resolve escalated issues from operations that require coordination with other departments, including Finance departments and Information Technology Solutions;
- Continuously increases knowledge in HR technology by serving as an expert on functional capabilities, staying informed on product capabilities and trends, and interacting with the Workday community.
Analytics and Reporting
- Understand national HR metrics and measurements to determine Mines standards for reporting;
- Manage HR and Payroll reporting for Mines, pulling data for external reporting, and to ensure accurate data for internal reporting departments (ex. Institutional Research and Strategic Analysis).
- Design manager dashboards within Workday, to drive activity in systems.
- Identify workforce reporting needs for Mines campus to focus action and achieve results.
- Partner with other data analysis teams to tell the employee story.
Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in related field. Substitution on direct Workday experience will be considered on a year for year basis.
- Two years’ experience in development and configuration of Workday Systems.
- Five years’ experience in a Human Resource role or supporting Human Resource Systems and business processes.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Must be able to interpret needs of departments and processes to translate into Workday functionality.
- Excellent customer service support to constituents.
- Must be well organized with keen attention to detail and demonstrate effective follow through.
- Operate with discretion and discernment when working with highly sensitive data.
- Success collaborating with a variety of constituents when providing training and guidance.
- Lead complex problem analysis and come up with solutions that support HR across campus.
Preferred Qualifications
Education and Experience:
- Master’s degree in related field.
- Experience leading Human Resources or working on HR systems in higher education.
- Report writer experience.
- Knowledge of Tableau or like data visualization software.
Certifications and Licenses:
- Possess Workday certification(s) in the relevant domains.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Project Management at complex organization
- Proven ability to translate business needs to effective systems processes.

Pay Range
$92,000 – $103,700
Mines takes into consideration a combination of candidate’s education, training and experience as well as the position’s scope and complexity, the discretion and latitude required in the role, work location, and external market and internal value when determining a salary level for potential new employees.
