SALARY RANGE: $85,000 – $95,000 Annually

ABOUT THE ROLE:
Safe Place for Youth is looking for a mission focused, critical thinking, proactive and enthusiastic Development Director willing to leverage unconventional resources, research innovative solutions and drive organizational growth. SPY currently operates on an organizational budget of approximately 12 million dollars (approximately 50% private philanthropy and 50% government funding) The Development Director will be responsible for developing and implementing fundraising strategies, including cultivating new supporters, individual giving, volunteerism, special events, and corporate partnerships. The Development Director will lead a team of fundraising professionals and work closely with the Director of Grants and Contracts, the Deputy Executive Director and CEO to ensure the organization is meeting its revenue goals.
WHAT YOU’LL DO:
- Develop an ongoing comprehensive, strategic fundraising plan, with specific measurable goals, that will enable Safe Place for Youth to meet current budget forecasts and future goals; oversee implementation of the plan.
- Identify, solicit and acquire new sources of funding from a wide variety of philanthropic, corporate and individual sources to expand donor base and build long term, sustainable sources of income for the organization.
- Cultivate and steward relationships with the organization’s portfolio of individual and corporate supporters.
- Implement strategies to diversify the organizations supporters, volunteers, and Board.
- Strategically leverage SPY’s existing network and engage new networks to meet fundraising goals.
- Oversee the implementation of all fundraising events, including supporting the creation of event revenue budgets and contributing to specific strategies to achieve event goals and managing event vendors and consultants.
- Support in the execution of third party fundraisers
- Partner with the communications team to translate their work to increase awareness about SPY’s mission and programs, into increasing SPY’s supporter base.
- Enlist celebrity ambassadors for SPY’s work and to raise the profile of the organization.
- Foster relationships with the local community including residents, businesses and partner agencies.
- Oversee the organization’s robust volunteer programs, including creating strategies to recruit, retain, and most effectively use volunteers.
- Oversee the implementation and management of the donor database system, including providing regular reports to the Board and Executive Leadership team.
- Represent Safe Place for Youth to stakeholders including community organizations, funders, and donors, including speaking on behalf of the organization at events and providing public comment.
- Support with meeting preparation for the Board Development Committee, and support with related fundraising activities.
- Oversee recruitment and facilitation of NextGen, SPY’s junior board
- Support the diversification of the revenue stream of funds to promote sustainability year to year
- Other duties as assigned to support the mission of the organization
Requirements
WHAT YOU’LL NEED:
The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of the homeless youth service’s and funding landscape and have experience working in a nonprofit setting. In addition, the following are strongly desired:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Marketing or any related field is preferred.
- 2-3 years of marketing experience in the non-profit sector is required.
- 2-3 years of supervising experience required.
- A commitment to and passion for the mission, vision, values and culture of Safe Place for Youth
- Experience with overseasing fundraising in a non profit organization required
- Experience managing a volunteer program strongly preferred
- Demonstrated leadership and experience supervising a team strongly preferred
- High level of professionalism, ability to produce high quality work, demonstrated attention to detail, ability to meet deadlines and ability to serve as an ambassador for the organization
- Exceptional interpersonal skills and an ability to build relationships and engage supporters
- Excellent oral and written communication skills to convey information with accuracy and diplomacy.
- A self starter who is proactive and prepared to drive innovative solutions for an emerging organization
- An ability to identify priorities, take ownership of work and operate under minimal supervision
- An innovator who leverages nontraditional resources for the benefit of the organization
- An ability to lead and be a part of an environment which requires effective collaboration and teamwork
- Demonstrated success in organizational and project development, fundraising and external relations
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Changes in the environment, such as the office or outdoors.
- Physical effort/lifting, such as sedentary- up to 15-20 pounds at times
- Hybrid in person and remote work location, with the ability to work in person as needed
- Some nights and weekends required
SPECIAL CONDITIONS:
Mandated Reporting Requirements: The person holding this position is considered a ‘mandated reporter’ under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 Revised July 21, 2017 as a condition of employment.
COVID-19 Vaccination Requirements: Effective August 9, 2021, the State Health Officer has mandated that all workers, paid or unpaid, in homeless services organizations must provide proof of vaccination. If eligible for a booster shot, proof of booster is also required. If not fully vaccinated, weekly COVID-19 testing is necessary depending on the program. Driver Positions:
Applicants are required to provide a copy of their driving record from the Department of Motor Vehicles, along with a copy of their valid driver’s license and proof of insurance. Job offers are contingent upon a satisfactory driving record. Examples of an unsatisfactory driving record include:
- Suspended or revoked license
- Three or more moving violations in the past 36 months
- Any violations, including drugs, alcohol, controlled substances, within the past 24 months
- Reckless driving, including hit and runs, within the past 24 months
- At fault accidents, resulting in fatality or serious injury, within the past 5 years
