CREDIT RISK REVIEW OFFICER SENIOR RETAIL/CONSUMER

WHAT IS THE OPPORTUNITY?

CRR is a 3rd line of defense, that is responsible for the independent, objective risk assessment and evaluation of level of credit risk, and the adequacy and effectiveness of 1st and 2nd line of defense credit risk management controls and processes related to the Bank’s retail/consumer portfolios. The portfolios include residential mortgage loans, Home Equity loans and lines of credit, Consumer and Commercial Credit Cards, Consumer lending and Small Business Credit. Position will evaluate the sufficiency of and adherence to Policies and Procedures that guide the origination, management and monitoring of credit risks, and assess the effectiveness of managements practices in operating within the Bank’s retail / consumer credit risk framework to ensure that they satisfy safety and soundness standards.

Internal Audit and CRR
The Internal Audit and CRR team provides objective and independent assurance services to support the bank in its mission and to help achieve its objectives through proactive risk management. The focus is on ensuring business activities remain safe, compliant and well-positioned for future opportunity and sustainable growth.

WHAT WILL YOU DO?

  • Responsible for the determination and preparation of CRR’s quarterly Risk Assessments on all Consumer / Retail portfolios.
  • Develops, manages and executes a risk-based examination plan and continuous monitoring plan covering the Bank’s retail / consumer Loan Portfolios and Lines of Business managing these portfolios; including assessing overall credit risk management including portfolio quality, emerging trends and issues and sufficiency of related credit policies and procedures.
  • Performs risk based independent reviews of CNB retail / consumer and small business loan portfolios to identify the adequacy of underwriting, compliance with Bank policy and applicable regulatory requirements, current or potential problems, as well as positive elements, regarding the assessment of credit risk and the administration of the portfolio.
  • Determines the accuracy of assigned internal credit risk ratings, non-compliance with CNB policies and procedures, loan weaknesses so that timely corrective actions can be taken, violations of laws and regulations and inadequate credit/collateral documentation.
  • Leads credit review examinations, incorporating findings and recommendations into written reports, conducts meetings with Bank departments and ensures the business line’s timely response and remediation.
  • Responsible for US Credit Risk Review’s Continuous Monitoring of all retail / consumer including identifying and rating credit risk and quality of credit risk management.
  • Identifies, recommends and effects process changes related to credit risk management activities.
  • Interprets and evaluates Bank Credit Policy and evaluates the propriety of 1st and 2nd line controls to appropriately manage credit risk. Monitors adherence to such policies and validates that exceptions are adequately identified, fully justified and properly approved.
  • Completion of a formal credit training program at a regulated bank a plus.
  • A thorough understanding of retail/consumer related regulatory guidance.
  • A thorough understanding of analyzing various types of retail / consumer credits required.
  • Must be able to work successfully in a client focused, consultative work environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, verbal and written communication skills, strong project management and presentation skills.
  • Strong understanding of analyzing various types of retail/consumer credits and related portfolios required.
  • Ability to analyze large sets of data used to assess current and prospective credit risks, and use appropriate technology to assist in this analysis.
  • Thorough knowledge and operational skills in the use of personal computers and various software packages, including MS Office applications – Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
  • Knowledge and use of alternative data analytical software applications such as Tableau is desirable.

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO SUCCEED

Must-Have*

  • Bachelor’s Degree in finance, economics or accounting.
  • Minimum 7 years of credit examination experience in retail / consumer credit risk management (2nd line of defense), or as a retail / consumer lender or retail / consumer credit risk review officer (emphasis on lending to or risk management associated with lending to high net worth and private wealth clients is desirable).
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in financial consulting with at least 3 years’ experience in retail risk management; or minimum of 7 years of experience with a bank regulatory agency, with at least 3 years of experience in retail / consumer credit and risk management.

Skills and Knowledge

  • Extensive knowledge of consumer/retail products/portfolios
  • Previous experience in leading teams of examiners is highly desirable.
  • Completion of a formal credit training program at a regulated bank a plus.
  • A thorough understanding of retail/consumer related regulatory guidance.
  • A thorough understanding of analyzing various types of retail / consumer credits required.

Compensation

Starting base salary: $111,408 – $189,738 per year. Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, and location. This job is eligible for bonus and/or commissions.
