I. General Description:

The Assistant Director of Exceptional Student Services (ESS) provides leadership and monitoring as well as coaching in the areas of social work, counseling, and nurses in the implementation of programs for all students. Responsible for attending IEP/504 meetings, coordinating and implementing professional development, and seeks and implements programs that support the educational focus of the District.

II. Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in education, social work, counseling, or psychology
  • Master’s Degree in administration, social work, counseling, psychology (preferred)
  • Five years of successful experience in education, counseling, social work, or psychology
  • Three years of supervisory or leadership experience (preferred)
  • Demonstrated proficiency with federal and state educational law
  • Evidence of leadership in delivery of professional development to educators, social workers, counselors and/or nurses
  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral)
  • Skilled developing talent in colleagues and use of coaching techniques

III. Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. In collaboration with the Safety and Wellness Administrator, establish, monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the district’s health and wellness programs provided by the social workers, counselors, and nurses.
  2. In collaboration with the Safety and Wellness Administrator develop internal monitoring of threat assessments completed on general education and special education students.
  3. Directly supervise, evaluate and coach social workers, counselors, and nurses.
  4. Works with the Director of Exceptional Student Services to support all aspects of the ESS department.
  5. Acts as the district representative in IEP/504 meetings, as needed.
  6. Monitor, review and provide professional development regarding 504 Plans/Meetings.
  7. Collaborate with the Compliance Coordinator regarding any areas within the IEPs and 504 plans that may need addressed.
  8. Collaborate with the IEP/504 team to help provide training regarding the students’ Health Plan.
  9. Ensure that all reports and records for Exceptional Student Services are accurately compiled and maintained as required, as well as ensure all student records are held in the strictest confidence as directed by federal/state laws and regulations.
  10. Assist in the development of district policies that meet the needs of students as well as compliance with all federal and state laws, rules, and regulations as it relates to social work, counseling and nursing practices.
  11. Works in collaboration with the Grants Department to ensure compliance to federal and state grant guidelines are met for positions funded from grants.
  12. Seek opportunities for additional community partnerships and resources for the District.
  13. Continue to foster relationships with current community partners.
  14. Maintain service provider data for federal and state grant reporting.
  15. In collaboration with the Social Worker Lead, Counseling Lead, and Nursing Lead, facilitate and/or attend social worker, counselors, and nurse meetings.
  16. Recruit, screen, and interview in collaboration with building principals for the positions of social workers, counselors, and nurses.
  17. Follow all District policies, procedures, and directives in a timely and appropriate manner.
  18. Attend Professional Development to continue to grow professionally in the areas of social work, counseling, and nursing.
  19. Keep abreast of legal changes that may affect IEPs and 504 plans.
  20. Perform all other tasks as may be assigned.

Reports To: Director of Exceptional Student Services

Status: Administrative Salary Schedule and District Benefits Package

Calendar: 12 Months; 40hrs/week

Compensation Range: $75,036 – $96,522
