Description

MERS Goodwill is looking for an Employment and Training Specialist to join our SkillUP team. The SkillUp program provides Food Stamp recipients in our Excel Center Adult High School with the opportunities to gain skills, training or experience. Our goal is to improve our participants’ ability to rapidly attachment to work that leads to decreased dependency on public assistance programs. This is a fast-paced job. This position requires both people and paper skills as there is about a 50/50 balance between working with participants directly and capturing the necessary documentation to establish eligibility, client interactions, and support services provided. The position is full-time weekdays and has excellent benefits. Available to work 40 hours weekly. And at least one evening a week until approximately 6:30 pm.

Primary Duties
• Serve as a career counselor to help adult high school students nearing graduation to determine career pathways that will lead to family sustaining wages
• Develop and maintain knowledge of community resources and training resources and provide referrals to internal and external services and providers
• Provide work-readiness training and support to students looking for rapid attachment to employment
• Arrange internal supportive services and financial assistance for training
• Network with training providers and resource partners to educate the community on Excel Center services
• Conduct timely intake and orientation on all referrals
• Use two data systems to track and capture information
• Perform “real-time” data entry and ensure paper documents are submitted timely
• Establish and maintain professional/confidential/ethical/helpful relationship with all consumers
• Model workplace-appropriate attire and behaviors
• All other duties as assigned

Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree or associate Degree required
• 2+ years’ experience in serving a diverse population in a social service setting preferred
• Workforce development experience preferred
• Must have strong computer skills, mainly data entry
• Valid driver’s license, current auto insurance, and independent transportation required
