BuildStrong Academy of Colorado is a nonprofit training organization created to solve the construction industry’s need for motivated and skilled workers. We provide hands-on education and instruction, job placement, and mentoring for youth and adults as they build careers in construction.

WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR

The Academy is seeking a Construction Instructor to join our talented team. You will help fulfill the Academy’s mission through relationship building and sound teaching. In this role, you will be responsible for planning and delivering in-person basic construction instruction using the Academy’s trade curriculum. This position requires knowledge of the construction industry and practices, the ability to deliver engaging instruction, and the ability to communicate fluently in multiple mediums and build strong relationships. Additionally, you will be expected to be a self-starter who takes initiative to get things completed accurately and on time, while still coordinating with other teams.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

To provide classroom and shop instruction at the BuildStrong Academy of Colorado (BSA) by performing the following…

  • Provide supervision and instruction for the Construction Bootcamp Training program and Carpentry Basics programs as needed (4-6 hour of teaching daily Mon – Fri and occasional weekends)
  • Provide supervision and logistical support ordering materials and supplies for all BSA programs
  • Provide back-up instruction for a variety of classes based on instructor availability as assigned by program Director
  • Opportunity to provide electrical, plumbing, and/or HVAC instruction if qualified
  • Assist with the development of instructional content in both online and print mediums
  • Responsible for the build out and maintenance of the construction laboratory
  • Provide logistical support and participate in the field and related projects as assigned by program Director
  • Maintain compliance with all company policies and procedures

Requirements

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED required plus a minimum of 5 years’ related field experience
  • Electrical, plumbing, and/or HVAC experience beneficial
  • Strong computer proficiency (MS Office – Word, Excel, and Outlook)
  • Experience providing instruction to both high school and adult-aged populations
  • Good verbal and written communication skills, including ability to communicate with internal and external customers
  • Ability to follow instruction and provide clear instructions to others
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service
  • Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish is a plus

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards
  • Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 25 pounds
  • Must be able to talk, listen and speak clearly
