OhioMHAS Information Services is the technology arm of the third largest cabinet level agency in the state of Ohio. We support more than 3,200 employees within six regional inpatient behavioral health hospitals, Ohio Pharmacy Services and Central Office. We develop and support technology for several critical business solutions used by the agency as well as by county and local behavioral health care providers across the state.
Role Overview:
As an Epic Application Analyst supporting the Patient Throughput and Revenue Systems at OhioMHAS, many opportunities are offered to impact family, friends and the residences of the State of Ohio. The Analyst in this role will primarily work with the initial implementation of the Epic System and then support the system and end user to make sure the technology is optimized for our Regional Psychiatric Hospital for enhanced work processes and overall patient care. We are a close-knit community of IT staff and develop applications which allows mental health and addiction providers to serve our community in need. Our applications support, regulate, fund and collect data to allow our organization the ability to respond to those in crisis as well as those needing continuity of care.
At OhioMHAS, our IT staff is motivated by the agency’s mission, and we are accepting applications for an Epic Application Analyst [Health Services Policy Specialist] within the Office of Information Technology, headquartered at the James Rhodes State Office Tower, 30 East Broad Street, 33rd floor, Columbus, Ohio 43215.
What you will do…
- In conjunction with Hospital Services, performs in-depth analysis of current and future workflows, data collection, report details and other technical issues associated with the Epic EHR and designated third-party applications;
- Collects requirements regarding potential system enhancements or new system implementation and prepares details of specifications needed;
- Prioritizes and implements requested changes to the system;
- Investigates standardization and process improvement opportunities while making build decisions;
- Validates data is accurate and meets business requirements;
- Designs and executes small-scale application testing as required;
- Provides support for the installation and implementation of system patches, service utilities and version upgrades as assigned;
- Troubleshoots, identifies root cause and documents problems of simple to medium complexity for assigned applications and systems;
- Analyzes and manages systems or third-party vendors/service providers to ensure service level agreements are met;
- Maintains data integrity and security for assigned applications and systems;
- Develops system documentation as assigned per standards;
- Develops communication for deployments, upgrades, optimizations and other system changes as assigned;
- Analyzes workflows and understanding policies, procedures and constraints in core clinical or business area(s) of responsibility;
- Partners with quality, operational and business leaders on system design and optimization to meet quality, safety, financial and efficiency needs.
This position will require out of state training.

Alternative 1:
Completion of graduate core coursework in health services administration, mathematics, statistics, actuarial science, public administration, allied health sciences, nursing, economics or comparable field
And
- 2 yrs. exp. in health services research &/or health policy analysis
And
- 12 mos. trg. or 12 mos. exp. in research methodology, measurement & testing, analysis of variance & survey sampling
And
- 12 mos. trg. or 12 mos. exp. in use of computer programs/applications with emphasis on relational data bases, use of computer hardware, software used for spreadsheets, statistical analysis & graphics presentation & word processing
And
- 1 course or 3 mos. exp. in multiple regression or multivariate analysis
Alternative 2:
Completion of undergraduate core coursework & 12 mos. exp. in one of following: health services administration, mathematics, statistics, actuarial science, public administration, allied health sciences, nursing, economics, public health, or comparable field
And
- 2 yrs. exp. in health services research &/or health policy analysis
And
- 12 mos. trg. or 12 mos. exp. in research methodology, measurement & testing, analysis of variance & survey sampling

Additional preferred qualifications:
- Epic certification in one or more Epic modules (Epic’s Cadence, Prelude and Welcome or Resolute Hospital Billing or Resolute Professional Billing or HIM Coding) or certification to be initiated as directed and completed within 3 months upon completion of Epic training
