Elevator Inspector

The elevator/escalator consulting division of Gannett Fleming continues to grow. A career opportunity awaits an Inspector to join our New York Metropolitan area office on an hourly basis. The Inspector will assist the Area Manager by providing vertical transportation consulting services including inspections, assessments, maintenance audits and oversight, construction administration, construction reviews and contract compliance inspections.

Gannett Fleming focuses on providing the highest quality of vertical transportation consulting services from design and engineering for new installations and modernizations, to maintenance oversight and contract enforcement of the life of the vertical transportation equipment for our clients. Gannett Fleming provides a wide range of consulting services from condition assessments to complex design projects. Our experience is in new design, modernization, and maintenance oversight in markets such as Transit, Aviation, Federal/State and Local Governments, Industrial, and Commercial.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform Elevator and Escalator assessments, surveys, progress site visits, and contract compliance inspections and provide required reports including survey and site information, and photographs to document findings.
  • Perform New York State Department of Buildings required third-party inspections.
  • Perform maintenance and safety audits on vertical transportation equipment and assist owners in maintenance oversight.
  • Work with the Area Manager/Project Managers to assist in multiple projects in order to successfully complete projects on time and on budget.
  • Ensure that work products comply with QA/QC requirements.
  • Reviews and approves all technical requirements of projects.
  • Works with project team members to insure a coordinated cohesive project execution.
  • Maintain project documentation in an organized manner as required.
  • Assist Area Manager/Project Manager in execution of project so that it is completed in a timely manner on schedule, within budget, and meets all technical and financial standards, regulatory compliance requirements, and customer expectations.
  • Serve as a client contact on assigned projects and respond to their needs.
  • Effectively communicate project requirements, client needs, and technical aspects to multiple parties including owners, building managers, contractors, architects, engineers, as well as State and Local authorities and regulatory agencies.
  • Work with inspectors, designers, and specialists to perform the project requirements in an efficient manner.
  • Review project deliverables including design documents, specifications, assessment, inspection, and audit reports.
  • Travel within the New York Metropolitan area to client’s offices and sites to conduct meetings, provide equipment evaluations, and construction progress site visits on a regular basis. Occasional out of area travel to meet client needs.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must have a minimum of 10 years of experience in the Elevator/Escalator Industry.
  • Ability to read and review architectural and engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Candidate must have familiarity with the New York Metropolitan area market and codes to meet the needs of our existing clients.
  • Demonstrated skills in oral and written communication and be able to communicate effectively with a wide variety of people with diverse background of all levels and disciplines.
  • Must be able to develop and maintain positive, cooperative, team-oriented relationships with co-workers, supervisors, managers, clients, and others in contact with the job.
  • Proficiency with MS Office.
  • Current New York City Department of Buildings Inspector’s License Required.
  • Current New York City Department of Buildings Director’s License Preferred.
