Description
“YouthConnect Worcester Summer Program provides neighborhood-based recreational, educational and cultural activities to isolated and underserved Worcester middle school age youth in an effort to reduce youth violence. YouthConnect provides environments that reflect our participants, respect and celebrate our differences and embraces the richness of our diversity.”
Under the leadership of the designated YouthConnect Worcester Summer Program Leader and Assistant, part-time program support staff will assist in the implementation of the YouthConnect registration process, assist with planning, implementation, and evaluation of all YouthConnect Worcester activities including, but not limited to the following: outreach, recruitment, and retention of Worcester’s middle school-aged youth; community service; and evening activities in recreational facilities including program transportation, building access, and monitoring of program supplies. Candidate must be a supportive, willing, positive, and energetic participant in the implementation of the outcome measurement system.
Responsibilities:
- Participate in training opportunities.
- Assist with designing outreach efforts and evening recreational and educational activities.
- Implementation of evening recreational and educational activities.
- Implement the YouthConnect Worcester registration process to include monitoring the completion of registration forms and daily attendance.
- Assist with monitoring supplies.
- Create a safe environment for all YouthConnect participants and staff.
- Participate in a comprehensive evaluation process.
- Complete incident and accident reports as necessary.
- Other duties as assigned by the YouthConnect Seasonal Program Director, designated Program Leader, or Assistant Leader for the successful completion of program.
Commitment:
June 26 – June 30, 2023 – 25 hours of Staff Development: (Monday – Friday, 5 – 10 PM)
July 5- August 25, 2023 – 25 hours per week of Program Implementation – (Monday – Thursday, 4:30 PM to 9:30 PM)
*Must be available every other Friday for off-site programming at the YWCA Camp Wind-In-The-Pines. Same time.
Vehicle preferred but not necessary. Must at least be able to get to the YWCA.
Qualifications
- Experience working with youth from culturally and ethnically diverse backgrounds.
- High School diploma required.
- Some college preferred, ideally in the areas of Child Development, Human Services, Psychology, Physical Education, Recreation, or another related field.
- Bilingual preferred.
- Must be deemed eligible according to state and or federal criteria for Summer Employment.
- Knowledge of American Sign Language helpful not required.
- Preference will be given to applicants that can show participation in: Youth Worker Training Institute, Worcester Youth Work Alliance, First Aid & CPR, Youth Mental Health First Aid, Narcan Administration.
