VMware is looking for a Senior Software Engineer & Staff Engineer to join our Workload Control Plane team as part of the Cloud Infrastructure Business Group (CIBG).
CIBG is behind VMware’s vSphere product – the flagship virtualization and management platform for the Software Defined Datacenter. Our charter is to make vSphere the infrastructure of choice for modern applications. With the integration of Kubernetes with the vSphere platform, the WCP team is now focused on building the next-generation IaaS layer using which developers and partners can deliver value-added services to their multi-cloud applications.
You will be playing a critical leadership role in building the foundational IaaS services along with a team of talented and enthusiastic engineers.

You enjoy researching and developing cutting-edge cloud-native software, you participate in the open-source community and you thrive in technically leading initiatives. You will be expected to work closely with other teams that need to consume core platform features and ensure that their programmatic interface needs are met.
The Work: What type of work will you be doing? What assignments, requirements, or skills will you be performing on a regular basis?
- Work with vSphere with Tanzu portfolio product management and architects to drive development initiatives around WCP IaaS services.
- Design and implement Kubernetes API-driven operators and services.
- Bring technical alignment among various teams including teams from different business units in realizing the unified vision of an API layer to power modern applications.
- Drive the vision and technical roadmap for your areas working with other stakeholders.
- Mentor engineers and be an enabler for your team.
- Understand the big picture and be obsessed with driving outcomes.

The hiring manager for the role is Sabari Murugesan, Senior Manager, leading the IaaS Services program. He has been with VMware for 9 years. He believes in fostering a transparent and open culture within the team with a strong focus on career growth for the team members.
VM Service team members are primarily located across Pacific and Central US Time Zones. However, frequent collaborations may be required with peripheral team members in APJ zones. The team has an open culture, they are self-starters, who have a passion for technology and getting things done.
Where is this role located?
Remote: This role is fully remote, allowing you the flexibility to work from the location you feel most productive and comfortable, or the location agreed upon with your hiring manager. You will be expected to live within a number of time zones from your team as defined by your business.

For US based candidates, the annual pay range (OTE for commissioned roles; Salary for other roles) for this position is: $139,000 – $331,000. The actual offer will be based on the role, location, and individual candidate experience. Bonus, commission, and/or equity may be eligible for this position.
