Minimum Qualifications of Education and Experience:
- Two (2) years of full-time work experience in accounting and/or finance; OR Two (2) years of post-secondary education from an accredited university, community college, or business school with a degree in business administration, finance, accounting, or related field.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and be able to drive in the state of Minnesota.

Nature of Work:
This role performs a variety of financial accounting, accounts payable, and accounts receivable duties relating to the development and control of financial records and reports while ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of financial information.

Duties / Responsibilities
Primary Essential Work Functions:
- Performs basic financial activities in the area of accounting.
- Prepares journal entries to record financial activity.
- Prepares audit workpapers as required.
- Reconciles accounts to ensure accounts are in balance and properly reported.
- Assists in managing and updating the special assessments records as required by the city.
- Processes accounts receivable and accounts payable transactions as backup for other accountant positions.
- Assists in the reconciliation of cash registers, verifies accuracy of transactions, compares system reports to balance, and prepares daily deposits.
- Maintains all loan receivable records, billing, and reconciliation of year-end balances.
- Serves as the City’s main contact in all title searches pertaining to outstanding invoices and pending assessments.
- Audits charitable gambling tax and vehicle excise tax returns monthly.
- Provides research and assistance as necessary to finance staff and other departments.

- Internally – City employees, 311 customer service staff, engineering department, IT department
- Externally – General public, community members, contractors, vendors, Blue Earth County

Paid Vacation:
Vacation accruals, utilization and payouts vary within each collective bargaining agreement and/or employee handbook. The following is the general overview of the vacation benefit:
- Vacation hours may be accrued to a maximum of 50 days or 400 hours.

- Vacation hours may be taken in 30-minute increments.

All regular full-time employees of the City, except those who are governed by a union contract or different holiday policy, receive ten (10) paid specific holidays and one (1) floating holiday.
Health Insurance Coverage Through Blue Cross/Blue Shield of MN:
- Health insurance plans to choose from: $5,000 HDHP, $3,000 HDHP, $500 CMM, $100 CMM
- City contributes up to $1,000/month ($12,000 annually) towards single coverage plans; and up to $2,500/month ($30,000 annually) for family coverage plans.
- All employee contributions towards premiums are deducted through payroll deductions on a bi-weekly basis.
- City contributions for union members will follow negotiated contract language.
