General Description / Primary Purpose
The Fine Arts Center manages two theatre venues, the Lazzara Performance Hall and the Andrew A. Robinson, Jr. Theater, in addition to multiple shared academic spaces.
Position serves as an assistant to the Production Manager/Technical Director in execution of technical specifications for all state performances for the Fine Arts Center and all venues under their management. Position often functions as head staff member for rental events. Contracts and supervises tech crews for lighting, sound, rigging, set assembly, and all safety aspects of FAC, before, during and after all events. The position serves and functions as a key client liaison and assists in developing estimates for rental clients, managing multiple backstage OPS personnel, supervises crew shifts and assists in oversight and maintenance of theatrical and facility equipment.
The primary goal of this position is to develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure a revenue generating enterprise, which offers high quality, professional performing arts venue that enhances the reputation of the University of North Florida.
Essential Duties
Job Function
OPERATIONAL:
- Requires knowledge of lighting equipment and ability to draft, hang, and focus light plots from start to finish.
- Responsible for the development, maintain, and provide functional channel hookups and dimmer schedules for all venues.
- Program, cue and design shows on ETC and other lighting boards using conventional and LED fixtures provided by rentals and/or UNF.
- Assist the Building Supervisor for emergencies in buildings 45 & 14A.
- Understand and follow all IATSE and Equity regulations as appropriate.
- Position functions as on site manager and stage coordinator for rental events.
- Responsible for up-to-date documentation on rentals and technical information, provide insight and ideas for lighting requests on events requiring specialized lighting and execute lighting designs for a variety of theatrical events.
- Maintain equipment by implementing maintenance schedules, coordinate repairs as required.
- Responsible for cleaning and organizing storage spaces, equipment rooms, and general shop areas on a weekly basis.
- During declared campus emergencies, this position may be required to perform specific job-related duties at a designated off campus location or place of residence.
EMPLOYEE MANAGEMENT:
- Assists with the recruitment of FOH & BOH employees through market days, social media and other outreach efforts.
- Assists in the training, managing and supervision of multiple BOH OPS.
- Assists with training all BOH staff for lighting, sound, video, rigging, set assembly, and all safety aspects of the FAC for all events.

Marginal Functions
- Provides oversight of general maintenance of building and custodial services in cooperation with Assistant Director and Physical Facilities.
- Assist in maintaining concessions stand product inventory, place orders, receive deliveries, and pick-up supplies as needed based on the event schedule.
- Serves on appropriate University committees as the Department’s representatives.
- Assists with developing and maintain a library of projection content to offer clients.
Required Qualifications
A high school diploma and six years of experience directly related to the job functions. Directly related college coursework or vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.
