Compensation Overview

The annual base salary range provided for this position is a nationwide market range and represents a broad range of salaries for this role across the country. The actual salary for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role; the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment. As part of our comprehensive compensation and benefits program, employees are also eligible for performance-based cash incentive awards.

$96,000.00 – $158,400.00

What Is the Opportunity?

Fast paced position that provides objective, independent, risk-based underwriting and/or compliance Business Reviews for the BoilerRe business segment. Having the ability to meet deadlines is key to being successful in this role. Must have strong leadership skills with the ability to manage and provide coaching to the Business Review Team. Responsible for communicating and tracking quality results in a timely and professional manner to both internal and external clients. May serve as a business liaison to Corporate Audit, Corporate Compliance and Travelers Legal Department for underwriting and/or compliance quality assurance-related issues related to BoilerRe. Willingness and desire to learn new things.

What Will You Do?

  • Leads underwriting business reviews and oversees the management, development, and execution of the underwriting and/or compliance quality assurance functions for BoilerRe .
  • Assesses the execution of underwriting and/or compliance controls, identifies trends and determines the potential impact of any insufficient execution and recommends corrective actions to the business.
  • Responsible for ensuring consistent application of underwriting and compliance quality assurance minimum standards are adhered to by the Business Review Team.
  • Prepares Business Review R eports in accordance with Enterprise and Business Insurance underwriting and/or compliance quality assurance minimum standards. Highlights any key observations and recommends an appropriate and effective action plan.
  • Monitors the recommended a ction plans to ensure they are executed effectively to the targeted due date for all Business Reviews (Home Office and Field) and High-Level Huddle Reviews.
  • Oversees the coordination of underwriting business review schedules, ensures appropriate size and scope of sample selection, and responsible for selecting a diverse audit team.
  • Travel several times per year to client offices.
  • May lead or participate in projects.

What Will Our Ideal Candidate Have?

  • Experience in commercial property casualty business. General knowledge of commercial property and casualty insurance business, systems, and products.
  • Underwriting experience and understanding of Reinsurance, both ceded and assumed.
  • General knowledge of risk assessment, technology and auditing principles preferred. Experience auditing underwriting files and/or financial transactions.
  • Strong leadership skills to effectively lead an audit team and negotiate successfully are essential.
  • Outstanding communication skills – this position requires frequent discussions and presentations with both internal management and external clients.
  • Strong technical skills – in depth knowledge of Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, QlikView, etc. Should be able to manipulate data at both a portfolio and individual account level.
  • Analytical skills – Basic skills with working with data to research and analyze Business Review results. The ability to identify root cause, materiality, and trends is critical to gleaning insight. Financial background is a plus.
  • Strategic Thinker – Ability to think long term and elevate insights, e.g., client, portfolio, book of business view.
  • Knowledge of First Party coverages, specifically property and Equipment Breakdown
  • Passion for quality and a strong desire to collaborate with the business and add value.
  • Strong writing skills and the ability to convey messages clearly and concisely.
  • Attention to detail and strong time management skills.
  • CPCU, CIA or CPA a plus.

What is a Must Have?

  • 5 years of compliance, underwriting, claim, product or relevant quality assurance experience required.
