Description
Come join a fun atmosphere where you can see animals every day, the Virginia Zoo! We are seeking part-time, Food Service Associates who enjoy working with guests and children. Great customer service skills are required!
JOB-STATUS
This is an hourly non-exempt part-time position. Daytime hours, limited evenings, holidays, and will be required to work weekends. This position does not supervise any staff.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
- Professionally serve food, provide remarkable customer service, and work as a cashier on an assigned work shift.
- Customer Service: Food Service Associates assist in delivering the Zoo’s four core values: Accountability, Innovation, Integrity, and Respect while providing exceptional internal and external customer service. Deliver the highest quality customer service to both internal and external customers while maintaining the cash register.
- Cash handling: Works within established financial controls to ensure continued safe and ethical practices which includes following proper cash counting and reconciliation for opening, closing, as well as delivering bank deposits to the Shift Lead or Assistant. Manager.
- Staff: Back up lobby and cooks if needed. Answer guest questions or direct the guest to the manager that can assist the guest.
- Food Handling Standards: Maintains established safe and compliant health and legal regulations by enforcing sanitation standards and procedures set by the Norfolk health department.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- At least one (1) year of food service or customer service experience preferred.
- Good problem solving, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Potential to be proficient with cash registers, credit cards and relevant restaurant equipment to be utilized during the work shift
- Ability to work outdoors in the hot or cold weather during the summer and winter months
- Excellent communication that establishes and maintains effective working relationships with staff, volunteers, and the public
- Excellent time management skills and ability to be proactive when tasks need to be completed
- Ability to be reliable and dependable
- Ability to have a flexible work schedule that will include weekends and holidays.
SALARY, SCHEDULE, & BENEFITS
- Starting at $12.50 per hour based on experience.
- Hours vary up to 32 hours per week, 40 per week during peak summer months.

- Free meal provided on days worked.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to traverse all parts of the restaurant quickly.
- Prolonged periods of standing.
- Must be able to lift 25 pounds at times and 50 pounds with assistance.
