Senior Manager, Cloud and Innovation Sustainability

Within CO+I, the Core Operations Functions team is responsible for the shared services across the organization, including end to end program management, security, risk and governance, planning, learning and development, and sustainability.

The Sustainability team focuses on driving CO+I performance in alignment to the existing corporate-wide commitments and establishing preferred CO+I sustainability datacenter regulatory policies. The sustainability team is seeking an experienced Senior Manager of Cloud and Innovation Sustainability to drive alignment across the team including corporate commitment performance across datacenters fleetwide in alignment with the corporate-wide sustainability team. The Senior Manager, Cloud and Innovation Sustainability will report to the Sustainability Leader. This is a critical role in our company’s sustainability efforts and offers an opportunity to make a significant impact on reducing the environmental impact of our Cloud Services.

This Senior Manager of Cloud and Innovation Sustainability position requires leadership, strategic planning, and project management skills. The Senior Manager, Cloud and Innovation Sustainability will have the opportunity to make a significant impact on the organization’s sustainability efforts and play a key role in addressing one of the most pressing challenges of our time.

Responsibilities:

  • Program management and stakeholder engagement to support t he organization’s sustainability strategy to ensure alignment with the existing corporate-wide sustainability commitments and preferred policy positions for CO+I fleetwide datacenters.
  • Organize and simplify issues and ideas in written and verbal communication to deliver clear messages to cross-functional teams and senior leadership.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce the organization’s environmental impact in service of Microsoft’s corporate commitments in collaboration with cross-functional teams.
  • Drive implementation of cross-functional deliverables with a focus on resource efficiency and prioritization.
  • Develop and track key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure progress in alignment with Microsoft’s corporate-wide sustainability goals.
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts across the organization to promote sustainability best practices and drive progress on performance initiatives to reduce the environmental impact of Microsoft’s datacenter fleet.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to internal teams and stakeholders to drive engagement, promote alignment to Microsoft’s corporate commitments, and embed sustainability principles throughout the organization.
  • Provide continuous feedback and contributes to the improvement of project operational efficiencies; provides recommendations to improve efficiency within working group.
  • Manage rhythm of business for Sustainability team to drive proactive alignment and prioritization across initiatives.
  • Manage program work expenses according to budget and propose efficiencies.

Qualifications:
Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree AND 3+ years experience in corporate social responsibility, philanthropies, corporate affairs, or related area
    • OR 5+ years experience in corporate social responsibility, philanthropies, corporate affairs, or related area.

Background Check Requirements:

The ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree plus 4+ years’ work experience in program management, process management, process improvement
    • OR equivalent experience
  • 2+ years of experience in sustainability, with a focus on datacenters
  • Strong understanding of stakeholder engagement, communications, sustainability frameworks, standards, and reporting requirements, including the Greenhouse Gas Protocol (GHG) and Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP)
  • MBA, sustainability focus preferred
  • Experience developing and implementing sustainability strategies and initiatives in a complex, global organization.
  • Experience working with stakeholders to drive sustainable practices and reduce environmental impact throughout the value chain.
  • Leadership and virtual team management skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire teams to achieve outstanding results.
  • Communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with stakeholders and external partners across multiple organizational levels.
  • Skilled in proactive communication of opportunities and risks to drive teams toward agreed-upon actions.
  • Ability to manage difficult conversations and drive changes in behavior as a strong voice of the corporate sustainability commitments.
  • Analytical and creative problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex data and surface insights to make informed decisions.
  • Passion for sustainability and a commitment to driving meaningful change.

Corporate Social Responsibility IC4 – The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $101,200 – $194,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $130,000 – $213,200 per year.
