TITLE: Day Trip Bus Driver

SUMMARY
The driver is responsible for the safe transportation of individuals to and from day trips. Drivers are required to assist participants and supervisors on the trip.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School diploma or equivalent required, must be 21 years old.
  • Works hours are as needed per trip enrollment, at 8-10 hours per day, approximately two days a month, depending on registration for trips.
  • Driver’s hours vary with morning, afternoon and evening hours and the needs of the program.
  • Ability to work independently with general direction from immediate supervisor.
  • Respond to routine customer inquiries regarding services of the district.
  • Remain calm under pressure and maintain records in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Ability to cooperate with and interpret Park District philosophies in relation to governmental, public, and private groups and agencies and the general public.
  • CPR/AED Certification
  • Valid drivers’ license and vehicle insurance

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Vehicle inspections (pre/post trip inspections)
  • Be a cautious driver, following all the rules of the road.
  • Complete required cleaning and maintenance checklists, passenger lists, and PDRMA vehicle forms as needed.
  • Greet program participants upon arrival and ensure the bus is accessible.
  • Perform the job safely and compliance with the district policies, procedures, work and safety rules and the employee policy manual.
  • Report any concerns or questions to supervisor.

MARGINAL FUNCTIONS

  • Respond to patrons’ complaints and suggestions.
  • Attend staff meetings as requested.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL CONSIDERATIONS

  • Must have upper extremities and fine motor skills to adjust mirrors, operate gear shift, steering wheel, and items on the dashboard.
  • Must be able to apply pressure to gas and brake pedal.
  • Must be able to turn head to check for blind spots, have vision to monitor surroundings, hearing ability to notice emergency vehicles, and ability to operate door for entry of passengers.
  • Unloading supplies from buses and transporting them into locations.
  • May frequently be required to walk, sit, talk, and hear.
  • Must have specific vision abilities required for this job; close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONSIDERATIONS
Worker may be:

  • In and out of controlled temperatures occasionally throughout the day
  • Required to work in all elements of weather.
  • Occasionally exposed to elevated noise levels produced by large crowds, live music, DJs, landscape maintenance equipment and/or power tools
  • Occasionally at job sites where dust, pollen, molds etc. may be present
