What you’ll do
As a Peer Bridger you will promote recovery by engaging with clients and assisting them in establishing community connections. This will be done post-discharge and during the clients transition back into the community. You will function as a role model through sharing your own lived experience with behavioral health challenges. You will meet program participants at the facility for initial engagement, relationship building, goal setting and to provide support through discharge. You will help re-engage the client with family, friends and other social support networks.
What you’ll bring
(Any equivalent combination of education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities is acceptabl).
- High school diploma/GED
- Must apply to become an Agency Affiliated Counselor within 7 days of employment. “Agency affiliated counselor” means a person registered under chapter 18.19.210 RCW, who is engaged in counseling and employed by an agency listed in WAC 246-810-016 or an agency recognized under WAC 246-810-017 to provide a specific counseling service or services.
- Must be approved by Washington state HCA to bill for services
- Lived experience of substance use recovery and the willingness to share their own experiences
- Ability to work flexible hours
- Valid Washington driver’s license or the ability to travel via public transportation
- Ability to meet timely documentation requirements
- Ability to work in a cooperative and collaborative manner as a team member with staff and program individuals
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- General office and computer experience
- Washington Certified Peer Specialist with at least two years’ experience working as a peer
- Dress professionally and appropriately
Preferably you’ll bring
- Ability and experience working with people from diverse cultures
- Experience with state substance use residential treatment facility services
- Ability to form trusting and reciprocal relationships
