Animal Care Kennel Technician

EssentialFunctions:

  • Care for, feed, and monitor animals in the shelter
  • Report observed health or behavior issues to department Assistant Manager/Manager
  • Clean assigned areas daily in compliance with standard operating procedures
  • Provide information to the public about Humane Society of North Texas programs and promote good animal care and responsible pet ownership
  • Keep current inventory
  • Maintain assigned equipment, supplies and vehicles in safe condition and report any problems or needed repairs to the department Assistant Manager/Manager
  • Representthe Humane Society of North Texas by providing excellent customer service
  • Protect the confidential information oncustomers and donors
  • Walk dogs daily in all weather conditions
  • Ability to deal with fractious animals
  • Work with dogs on training, such as leashtraining and behavioral training based on recommendations from the behavioristand trainers
  • Additional tasks assigned by department Assistant Manager/Manager
  • Ability to meet physical demands

Knowledge,Skills and Abilities Needed to Perform the Essential Functions of thisPosition:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Experience with animals
  • Ability to read, write and communicateeffectively
  • Knowledge and ability to accurately work withdetailed information on paper and computerized format
  • Ability to work under stressful circumstances
  • Working knowledge of breeds, diseases, medicalconditions, and animal handling and behavior
  • Self-motivated, works effectively under pressureand has the ability to multi-task
  • Works collaboratively with all departmentswithin the organization
  • Ability to learn and quickly adapt to changes inprograms and procedures
  • Ability to represent the Humane Society of NorthTexas in a professional manner
  • Must be able to deal with fractious animals
  • Will be subject to exposure of animal odors,extreme levels of ammonia, diseases, possible contagious conditions, bites,scratches, animal waste and moderate noise levels
  • Must support the mission and values of HSNT
