The Opportunity:
The Custodial Specialist I position provides essential support for the operational maintenance and sanitation of Housing related buildings in an effort to provide a safe, functional, clean, efficient, and attractive living and learning environment. This position is responsible for cleaning standard assigned areas, troubleshooting issues, and providing service for and responding to requests from customers and staff.

Responsibilities:

  • Clean and stock commonly used areas including but not limited to: restrooms, sinks, showers/tubs, toilets, stalls, receptacles, mirrors, windows, and entryways.
  • Vacuum carpeted areas, including moving and replacing furniture, and spot cleaning.
  • Sweep, and Dry/Wet mop floors, stairwells, entryways, and other areas.
  • Waste removal, including trash and recycling.
  • Perform surface cleaning including but not limited to dusting, wiping, and scrubbing of furniture, walls, equipment, and kitchen appliances.
  • Perform light maintenance activities as part of the high-performance work team. This may include but is not limited to restroom dispenser repairs, drain cleaning, light replacements, painting, and pressure washing.
  • Shampoo/extract carpeted areas and upholsteries.
  • Refinish flooring through stripping, waxing, and buffing (including tile, vct., etc).

Minimum Qualifications:
Completion of 9th grade.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Adaptable to work assignments and flexible for utilization by trade with most urgent requirements.
  • Ability to use small and large tools required to perform essential tasks (floor care equipment, mop/mop bucket, dust mop, broom, scrub pad, radio, etc.).
  • Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions. Also, ability to communicate in conversational English in order to work effectively with customers and team members, operate electronic equipment (iPod touch for Integrated Work Management Systems PM checkpoints), comprehend standard safety procedures, and utilize telecommunication devices.
  • Ability to operate a fleet vehicle as necessary.
  • Demonstrated capabilities in interpersonal skills, memory, attention to detail, calculation, reading, evaluating, comprehension, and organizing.
  • Ability to utilize standard office software applications and devices for work order systems (IWMS).
  • Ability to comprehend safety guidelines, and use approved chemicals by Environmental Health & Safety to perform essential job functions.

Health Assessment Required:
The UCF policy requires completion and passing of a physical exam for this position.

Special Instructions to the Applicants:
Position requires a valid Class E driver’s license. The position may involve driving to various locations on and off campus to conduct University business.
