The Lead Tasting Room Representative supports tasting room operations in a manner that achieves the established financial goals, ensures a rich consumer experience, builds consumer loyalty, and reflects the brand essence. Demonstrates superior product knowledge, effectively educates guests and staff using product presentations, and provides exceptional sales and customer service to winery guests.

Compensation

  • Hiring Salary Range Posted: set rate listed as $25.25 – hour – $25.25 / hour + tips! + $1,000 hiring bonus! + incentives!
  • In addition to the salary, this position may be eligible to participate in tasting room tip pools, bonuses and incentive plans, as applicable.
  • Actual compensation paid within the range will be determined by factors such as the education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.

What You Will Do:

  • Prepares the tasting room for daily opening and closing.
  • Presents selected wines for tasting and assist consumers with their purchases.
  • Functions as an informed resource for consumers regarding winemaking, winegrowing, and wine vintages, availability of products and brand award and accolades.
  • Understands and effectively communicates the Brand message.
  • Promotes and procures Wine Club memberships.
  • Conducts property tours and VIP tastings.
  • Represents Tasting Room at winery events.
  • In the absence of the Tasting Room Supervisor, monitors tasting room staff, ensuring all employees are assigned to appropriate venues. Makes decisions based upon tasting room capacity, staff, guests, etc. when necessary.
  • Participates in the training and coaching of tasting room staff. Actively leads and supports wine education amongst the tasting room staff.
  • Provides constructive feedback to entry level tasting room staff.
  • Acts as the lead in the higher level venues, ensuring all guests receive best in class service and
    attention.

What You Will Need:

  • High school diploma or State-issued equivalency certificate, plus 6 years of tasting room, customer service, retail sales, wine industry, hospitality, team management, public relations, marketing or teaching and educating others experience reflecting increasing levels of responsibility; OR Bachelor’s degree plus 2 years of tasting room, customer service, retail sales, wine industry, hospitality, team management, public relations, marketing or teaching and educating others experience reflecting increasing levels of responsibility.
  • Required to be 21 years of age or older.
  • Required to work weekends and a flexible schedule as needed.
  • Required to engage in frequent walking and standing.
  • Experienced in reading and comprehending simple instructions, correspondence, and memos.
  • Experience in writing simple correspondence and procedures.
  • Skilled in adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Lift and move product weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Experience executing tasks that required attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Experience executing tasks or job functions that require good organizational skills and engaging in functions using own initiative.
  • Required to travel to company offices, sites, and/or meeting locations for onboarding, training, meetings, and events for development, department needs, and business delivery up to 5% of the time, with or without reasonable accommodation. This may be in addition to travel requirements, if applicable, as listed in this job description.
  • Required be 18 years or older. This may be in addition to other age requirements, if applicable, as listed in this job description

What Will Set You Apart:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration or Hospitality Management plus 2 years of wine sales experience reflecting increasing levels of responsibility; OR Bachelor’s degree plus 4 years of tasting room, customer service, retail sales, wine industry, hospitality, team management, public relations, direct to consumer marketing or wine education experience reflecting increasing levels of responsibility; OR High school diploma or State-issued equivalency certificate, plus 8 years of tasting room, customer service, retail sales, wine industry, hospitality, team management, public relations, direct to consumer marketing or wine education experience reflecting increasing levels of responsibility.
  • Possession of CSW, Certified Sommelier or WSET Advanced Certifications.
  • Knowledge of wine and wine production.
  • Knowledge of federal and state legal compliance related to tasting room operations preferred.
  • Experience in training and leading others.
