Microsoft’s Cloud Operations and Innovation (CO+I) team is responsible for building and operating Microsoft’s data centers, which power the company’s cloud business. The CO+I Engineering team delivers essential services, applications, and automation that support the planning, construction, and operation of these data centers, contributing to 30% of Microsoft’s Commercial Cloud revenue. Our workflows ensure predictable, cost-effective construction, our telemetry systems drive high availability and optimized energy usage, and our task and performance management applications help our operations run smoothly. CO+I Engineering is a critical factor in Microsoft’s cloud success.
As part of the CO+I organization, the Inventory and Asset Management Engineering team is focused on smart growth, efficiency, and delivering a reliable experience to our customers and partners worldwide. Our solutions coordinate with systems and processes across Microsoft, and our data and services play a crucial role in enabling smooth operation of Microsoft’s data centers. In 2023, we plan to extend our dataset and services to new granularities, unlocking new opportunities to optimize infrastructure, processes, and business workflows. We’re seeking someone to help us tackle these challenges and design and implement the systems.

Responsibilities:
- Lead the end-to-end development of software solutions with a high degree of visibility and impact across the organization.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design, develop, and implement systems and processes that support data center operations.
- Act as a technical leader, resolving complex technical problems and guiding the team in building scalable solutions.
- Drive innovation in a fast-paced Agile environment, delivering value incrementally and continuously learning.
- Contribute to full-stack development, including expertise in distributed systems, software design, data schema design, coding, debugging, and operations.
- Work across multiple CO+I systems, serving as a depth expert in one or more areas.
- Apply a combination of realism and optimism to drive substantial impact and build great user experiences using cutting-edge technologies.
Qualifications:
Required/Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
- OR equivalent experience.
- 6+ years of experience designing and developing software in distributed, cloud-based systems.
- 2+ years of experience working in middle tier/backend technologies such as .NET, relational and non-relational (NoSQL) databases, web services, and RESTful concepts
Other Requirements:
- Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to, the following specialized security screenings:
- Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Preferred/Additional Qualifications:
- MS or PhD in Computer Science
- Ability to lead complex system schema design
- Problem solving and debugging skills
- Excellent analytical skills and an ability to abstract concepts and think in terms of OO design

Software Engineering IC5 – The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $133,600 – $256,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $173,200 – $282,200 per year.
