Job Title: Communications Manager – College of Dentistry
The College of Dentistry is seeking an experienced Communications Manager to implement strategic communications supporting our mission to advance oral health for the people of Iowa and beyond through education, research, and person-centered care. Successful candidates will have experience developing key relationships and work closely with multiple stakeholders to create an informed, engaged, and invested constituent base for the College. Responsibilities:
Communications
- In collaboration with the leadership team, create, implement, and measure the success of a comprehensive marketing, communications, and public relations program that enhances the College’s image and position with the general public and dental education communities. Including conveying a consistent institutional voice across all communication channels.
- In partnership with the University’s Office of Strategic Communications, develop comprehensive communications, that stay abreast of University branding guidelines Responsible for content management of the following platforms: Collegiate Newsletter(s), Website(s), Alumni Magazine and other Alumni connections, Social Media, and Others, as assigned.
- Execute targeted marketing projects as requested.
- Identify/maintain relationships with keys stakeholders to improve comprehensive communication regarding COD mission, including: Dean’s office, Patient care, Education, Admissions, Alumni, CE, and Research.
- Develop/create content and manage communication and publications/mediums.Write and edit news releases, talking points, feature stories, op-eds, video scripts, etc. for a range of platforms.
- Utilize current platforms (newsletters, website, social media, etc.) to disseminate communications while investigating/utilizing new/novel options.
- Collaborate with and communicate video and photography needs utilizing internal/external providers as necessary.
- Represent the CoD in campus strategic communication groups – attend Social Media meetings, Communication Meetings, or others as necessary or directed.
Alumni Relations
- Serve as the liaison between alumni, the Dean’s Office, and the UI Center for Advancement.
- Develop, coordinate, and manage Alumni programs and events.
- Develop and execute all donor recognition events for UI Alumni Relations.
- Coordinate and arrange event logistics including vendors/venues, labor, equipment, sponsors with on/off-campus units for special Alumni events.
- Oversee execution of events, including being in attendance which includes some after-hours and occasional weekends. May also require travel outside of Iowa City.
- Produce and distribute Alumni Newsletter three times per year.
- Coordinate monthly donor thank you letter and card distribution.
- Maintain CoD alumni contact database.
- Manage Alumni Affairs budget.
- Coordinate with CE Program Manager and other support staff with event management as needed.
Salary: $68,924 to commensurate (Pay Grade: 5A)
Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00am – 5:00pm
May require occasional/seasonal evening and weekend hours including travel.
Work Location: On-Site
Required Qualifications:
- Master’s in Communication, Marketing, or equivalent, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- 3 years relevant experience:
- developing strategies to create and edit content for use in communication/public relation initiatives;
- experience managing communication through social media platforms; and
- experience utilizing website content management software (e.g. Drupal).
- Demonstrated experience proactively and practically solving problems involving multiple variables with limited supervision.
- Experience working under strict deadlines and shifting priorities while maintaining attention to detail and quality delivery.
- Demonstrated excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently, collaboratively, and effectively with diverse populations/personalities that represent all levels of an organization.
- Requires occasional/seasonal evening and weekend hours including travel.

HIGHLY Desirable:
- Experience managing public relations within a healthcare environment.
- Experience planning, organizing, estimating, and executing programs and events including all logistics and staging.
Desirable:
