Valor Center Technical DirectorThis position offices in-person, on campus
ROLE SUMMARY
The Valor Center Technical Director will actively enhance and increase the experience and outcomes of Valor productions and events, continuously striving to deliver the highest caliber product for stake holders and event patrons. The Technical Director will be a vested and proactive partner, striving to raise the caliber of events to the highest level possible. Areas of purview include Valor Arts productions, Valor Chapels and general Valor events.
The Technical Director role also demands an invested knowledge of theater and technical theatre. This includes managing and overseeing the different technical assets, including sets, lighting, costumes, props, sound and effects. The Technical Director serves a multifaceted role, acting sometimes as technical expert and advisor, sometimes serving as a project coordinator, and sometimes as an entrepreneurial problem solver to artistically enhance and propel stage endeavors.

Primary Responsibilities
- In production, this role is ultimately responsible for:
- Timely set planning, procurement or creation
- Lighting and audio planning, implementation and creation
- Crew planning, training and implementation
- Production safety
- For events, this role is ultimately responsible for:
- Full exploration, creative consideration and planning of lighting and audio and other technical considerations
- Technical support team organization, hours management
- Ensuring a high-level experience for stakeholders and patrons – both technically and creatively insofar as technical systems can reasonably enhance
- Maintenance, ordering and organization of systems and equipment

RESULTS
Culturally, the Technical Director role requires a proactive “can do” attitude and an invested desire to propel Valor productions and events, maximizing the experience of both patron and participant. An exceptional Technical Director raises the quality of the final stage product while providing for a smooth, well executed and inspired production journey. Interpersonal skills are critical, as the role is first and foremost service oriented, sometimes requiring patience and grace, while also exhibiting an attitude of vested partnership.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND REQUIRED COMPETENCIES
- A Bachelor’s or master’s degree in a related area is preferred.
- Minimum of five years related work experience is required. (Core technical competencies listed below.)
- Theatrical production experience is critical.
- Proficiency in lighting design and programming is essential. MA or Grand MA experience is preferred.
- Audio engineering/Front of House experience is required. Digico console experience is desirable.
- Rigging experience is required. Experience with performer flying is desirable.
- Video systems experience with both capture and display interfaces is required.
- Experience with set construction, basic construction, and shop management is essential.
- The ability to successfully train and equip student support workers in technical theatre and production support is essential.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The same basic physical demands described here are the same for all employees to successfully perform the essential functions of their jobs. Employees must periodically lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and could occasionally be required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close and distance vision, color vision, peripheral/depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work environment characteristics are varied and include the performance hall, classroom, office, and outdoor events while performing the essential functions of this job. The noise level in the work environment is also varied.
POSITION TYPE: C: Year-round schedule. 12-Month Calendar. This position offices in-person, on campus
HOURS PER WEEK: Full-time, Exempt. (Evening and weekend work required)
SUPERVISOR: Director of Arts+Media
PAY RANGE: $65,000 – $80,000
START DATE: August 1, 2023
