National Journal is hiring a PAC Engagement and Events Intern to join our National Journal Research Revenue team, specifically in support of our PAC (Political Action Committee) Vetting service and event management team.
The PAC Vetting services serves over 60 corporations by helping them vet and monitor their political candidates to ensure their PAC giving aligns with the companies values. We are looking for organized and enthusiastic interns interested in learning more about building a strong new business pipeline to support the growth of the PAC Vetting service. As the PAC Vetting service continues to grow and look for new pathways to expand the service, we are also looking for an intern that is innovative and has an entrepreneurial spirit. The intern will also play a secondary role assisting our events team with planning and management of in-person & virtual programs supporting a robust calendar of events to drive new business.

What is National Journal’s PAC Vetting Service?
Network Science Initiative, a custom research division within National Journal, launched a PAC Vetting Service that tracks all members of Congress, along with state and local candidates, to help clients identify and continuously monitor key reputational risks associated with candidates. Clients receive nonpartisan and objective research on their candidates’ policy stances, affiliations, actions, and statements, all customized to the clients criteria.
The Role:
Reporting to the Director of Partnerships, this intern will support the new business pipeline and sales for the PAC Vetting Service. In addition, under the supervision of the events manager, the intern will also support the events team to coordinate business dinners, external events, and webinar presentations from conception to execution.
Intern Responsibilities:
- The intern’s responsibilities will primarily focus on the PAC Vetting service business, while providing some support for the events team.
- PAC Vetting service responsibilities:
- Supporting the business pipeline by keeping prospect contact information up-to-date
- Building out a new pipeline with prospect contacts
- Setting up weekly outreach schedules to secure meetings with prospective clients
- Working with the Director of Partnerships to draft messaging for the PAC Vetting outreach
- Scheduling calls with the potential prospect
- Supporting the sales cycle by taking notes on initial and follow up sales conversations
- Events team responsibilities:
- Assisting in event management through proactively planning a framework of tasks leading up to each event
- Developing invitation language and executing outreach to prospective attendees
- Managing calendar invitations and tracking RSVPs
- Coordinating internal teams to ensure event tasks are completed according to a predetermined timeline
- Organizing data post-event and logistical support in coordinating follow-up outreach

Qualifications of the Ideal candidate:
The ideal candidate will have strong familiarity with the political action committee landscape and an understanding of the corporate guidelines around political giving. The candidate will have the ability to execute against specific timelines and priorities to develop professionally and intellectually , both independently and in close collaboration with revenue and research team members.
Specific qualifications include:
• A highly analytic, natural problem solver.
• A strategic and organized individual who can independently manage priorities and adhere to timelines.
• A strong writer able to clearly frame issues for a variety of audiences for outreach; some experience with PowerPoint or other visual presentation formats highly preferred.
• An individual with 1-3 years of experience in at least one of the following domains: business development, strategic outreach to corporate leaders, policy analysis, Capitol Hill or executive agency experience, or political science research.
• Earned (or in the process of earning) Bachelor’s degree required.
• Entrepreneurial spirit; Track record of building and executing new strategic outreach initiatives.
• Creative thinking and resourcefulness in problem-solving.
• Prodigious work ethic and spirit of generosity.
• A full course of the COVID-19 vaccination is required for employment at National Journal.
• Active contributor to a diverse and inclusive workplace.
Employment Type: 40 hours per week, Internship (3 months)
Start Term: Fall 2023
Compensation: The salary for this role is $20/hour.
Remote Status: 100% in-person on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, with the opportunity to work remotely on Mondays and Fridays.
