The Recreation Programs Specialist will play a critical role assisting with daily operations and supervising program areas when full-time staff are unavailable, providing administrative support and oversight of the center’s front desk activities. In 2022, Sertoma Arts Center was included in the passing of the Parks bond, which allocated funds to significantly renovate and expand the facility. The Recreation Programs Specialist will play a key role through the design, construction, and reopening phases by providing administrative support to full-time staff and project management. The ideal candidate for this position will be upbeat, energetic, self-motivated, very organized, customer service-oriented and possesses a love of the arts.

Work Hours:
While this position primarily works daytime shifts, some night and weekend work may be required.

This role works 30 hours per week as a Permanent Part-Time position and contributes to the Local Governmental Employees’ Retirement System (LGERS) at a 6% employee contribution and is additionally eligible for medical benefits.
Duties and Responsibilities

  • Serves as the lead for Sertoma Arts Center’s front desk, ensuring smooth operation and efficiency on daily basis.
  • Supports patrons as the first point of contact and sets the tone t hrough a helpful, welcoming, but firm presence
  • Responds to inquiries about Sertoma Arts Center’s programs and spaces to register participants for classes and studio memberships, process rental bookings for the space and Williams Park, and provide general oversight of what’s happening in the facility during assigned work hours
  • Creates and maintains facility usage schedules, including open studio and program space usage
  • Performs peer supervisory tasks to ensure that front desk staff, work study students, and volunteers are completing their assignments
  • Supports the marketing of programs and rental spaces, maintains communication with marketing staff, and monitors website to keep information clear and current

Typical Qualifications
Education and Experience:
High School Diploma or GED and one year of related clerical work and/or office support experience. Candidates must be at least 21 years of age to apply.

OR

An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation.

Licensing and Certifications:

  • CPR/AED/First Aid/EPI certification, or the ability to obtain within 60 days of hire
  • Chemical spill training, or the ability to obtain within 60 days of hire

Preferred Qualifications:

  • An awareness of safety issues common in art-making environment
  • Previous experience working in the arts

Additional Information

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Communicating successfully with students, members, volunteers, instructors, studio coordinators and other staff to ensure smooth facility operations
  • Utilizing a variety of software programs, including Microsoft Excel and Word. A significant portion of this position involves utilizing Microsoft products, Google products, and RecTrac (training provided upon hire)
  • Capability to acquire basic understanding of materials, skills and techniques involved in multiple visual arts mediums and communicate about artistic skills and studio equipment

ADA and Other Requirements:
Positions in this class typically require: stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, talking, seeing, and hearing.

Medium Work:
Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Working Conditions:
Work duties are performed both indoors and outdoors.
